  • Job Title: Marketing Localization Specialist II - Bilingual (Japanese/English)
  • Job Summary: This role is primarily responsible for translating game-related documents into English. Understanding localization processes and tools is essential, and the candidate should have an appreciation for the importance of faithful localization, an interest in marketing, and a passion for our products.

What you’ll do

  • Translate marketing materials, which may include press releases, video scripts, design documents, and more, for Pokémon video games, apps, and related projects.
  • Understand the localization direction and philosophy of the Pokémon brand and adhere to both while learning from feedback from your peers, supervisors, and in some cases, other teams.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to adopt new processes/tools, while also consulting with senior members to understand the needs of various teams and existing workflows.
  • Take a lead role in tackling marketing translation tasks, including negotiating deadlines, ensuring quality and accuracy of deliverables, and managing competing priorities while working with your fellow team members to ensure that all work gets completed on time and meets the expectations of various teams in Japan and within TPCi.
  • Utilize all the tools available to you—including CAT tools, access to game scripts and builds, and communication with your fellow team members and subject-matter experts—to produce translations that accurately reflect game specs and features as you become an expert yourself on our products.
  • Work with fellow localization team members to produce high-quality language and meet cultural requirements while maintaining consistency with game text and creating a cohesive vision of our products that aligns with brand standards and the needs of your fellow teams at TPCi.
  • Ensure consistency regarding the use of terminology and alignment with existing translations.
  • Understand the requirements for different text types, including limitations on length and timing needs for video scripts, knowledge of possible legal considerations of marketing text, needed polish for text for public consumption, and more.
  • Interact daily with other translators, editors, project managers, and technical support teams, while also being self-directed and acquiring greater knowledge that will aid you in your role.
  • Assist with other localization projects and tasks as needed.
  • Report progress regularly to in-house management.

What you’ll bring

  • 3-4 years of experience translating from Japanese to English
  • Japanese speaking and writing abilities at a near-native level
  • English speaking and writing abilities at a native level, with a particular passion for writing and producing clear, engaging text that can be used as the basis for marketing efforts
  • A solid mastery of the standard conventions of English grammar and style
  • A desire to produce translations that are both appropriate for the intended audience and channel of communication and which stay true to the source text and brand direction
  • The ability to work flexibly in an environment that features tight deadlines and shifting schedules
  • Comfort with troubleshooting new software and the ability to learn specialized technical programs
  • A proven ability to multi-task, juggling different requests while maintaining quality, consistency, and attention to detail
  • Experience with video games (playing and/or translating)—especially Pokémon games
  • Experienced with trading card games (playing and/or translating)
  • Experience with MemoQ or other CAT tools
  • An interest in developing project management skills and CAT tool mastery

  • Base salary range: For this role, new hires generally start between $74,000.00 - $87,400.00. The full range is $74,000.00 - $111,000.00. This range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. Final base salary is directly related to each candidates' qualifications and professional experience uniquely.
