General Assembly Materials Flow Engineer

Job Summary:

Our client in Troy, MI is looking for a General Assembly Materials Flow Engineer. This is a Contract position.

We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced in automotive manufacturing (General Assembly, Body in white, Paint, warehouse) Materials Flow Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in optimizing the flow of materials through the assembly process, ensuring efficiency, minimizing waste, and maintaining a smooth production operation. The General Assembly Materials Flow Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement effective materials flow strategies.

  • Prioritize safety above all to protect our team members, partners, and customers.
  • Analyze and optimize the flow of materials throughout the plant process.
  • Develop and implement efficient materials flow strategies to minimize bottlenecks and reduce lead times.
  • Collaborate with procurement, production planning, and logistics teams to ensure timely availability of materials.
  • Design and implement visual management systems to monitor materials flow and identify areas for improvement.
  • Work closely with suppliers to improve material delivery schedules and reliability.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to enhance materials handling efficiency.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and production teams to determine optimal storage and staging locations for materials.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles to eliminate waste in materials flow.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams, provide technical expertise and support for setting up ERP and MES systems, materials handling equipment and systems.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for materials flow processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve materials flow issues.
  • Capture and document lessons learned for continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Logistics, or a related field (Advance degree is a plus).
  • Proven experience as a Materials Flow Engineer or in a similar role in manufacturing.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials flow principles and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with implementing visual management systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using engineering software and tools.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in materials flow engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with implementing automation in materials handling.
  • Lean manufacturing experience (Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies is a plus).
  • Previous experience in the automotive or similar industry.
