The Paralegal Clerk will provide paralegal support to our busy Supreme Court and Appellate practice area. They will work closely with small teams of lawyers in high-stakes litigation. Our nationwide team has significant experience arguing - and winning - at the Supreme Court and federal courts of appeal. With a focus on access to justice and the rule of law, we have a tradition of supporting ground-breaking social developments.

This position has a billable requirement of 1,650 hours per year and will be located in the Washington, D.C. office.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Cite check briefs and motions drafted by Appellate Practice attorneys
  • Prepare PDFs of appellate documents, including voluminous joint appendices.
  • Prepare tables of contents and tables of authorities.
  • Proofread documents drafted by Appellate Practice attorneys.
  • Electronically file briefs in courts and oversee preparation and service of necessary printed copies.
  • Prepare certain routine or procedural motions and documents.
  • Coordinate work with outside document/litigation vendors, including adherence to strict deadlines;
  • Coordinate with Clerk’s Offices as requested by Appellate lawyers.
  • All members of the firm are encouraged to participate in our Global Citizenship program; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to learn;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and ever-evolving environment, with or without direct supervision;
  • Coordination of multiple projects, individually and amongst a team; and
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Sound judgment in decision-making, high integrity, and utmost respect for confidentiality.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn court rules and practice requirements of the U.S. Supreme Court all federal courts of appeals, and numerous lower federal courts. Knowledge of appellate state court rules, particularly New York and California, a plus;

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred;
  • Paralegal certificate desirable.

HOURS

Core hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including one hour for lunch, with overtime as required.
