About the Role: Director of Strategy & Business Development

The Team: The Geopolitics & International Affairs practice has significant expertise on global markets and is scaling up to become the most trusted strategic advisor on the intersection of geopolitics, energy, and climate, shaping our clients’ value creation path through the energy transition. The Director will focus 75% of his/her time on Latin America, and 25% on supporting other initiatives on cross-cutting geopolitics and energy transition issues. He/she will play a leadership role coordinating with SPGCI commercial teams, relevant business lines, and financial, data, technology, and legal teams to drive the growth of the Latin America region for SPGCI, ensuring the effective delivery of priority projects in Latin America, supporting the development of new product offerings including business case analyses, participating in business development initiatives and client outreach, and ensuring quality commercial and strategic outcomes for our clients. The Directors will also participate in engaging government representatives where policy and regulatory actions can affect a viable market environment for investment.

Responsibilities and Impact:

  • Provide overall direction and leadership for the practice area, which spans the energy value chain and engages senior leadership in the public and private sector, including practice expansion and strategic plans
  • Lead business development and revenue generation regionally in the practice area in partnership with other senior practice members and the sales and subscription services teams
  • Drive the effective implementation of new priority projects identified as part of the SPGCI Latin America strategy together with cross-functional SPGCI teams, including clear delineation of clients, revenue expectations, personnel, and substantive capabilities
  • Participate as a senior member of the team in global talent recruitment, development, and retention
  • Supervise and mentor three team members to support their growth as successful leaders in SPGCI
  • Direct strategy implementation to ensure the highest standards of deliverables, client satisfaction and project profitability
  • Coordinate with business line and commercial leaders in related sectors (e.g., Oil, Gas, Power, Metals, Agriculture) in conjunction with Region Heads, to ensure seamless delivery of S&P Global capabilities
  • Coordinate with various elements of the S&P Global research organization to ensure continued thought leadership on key issues facing the industry
  • Ensure delivery of comprehensive business cases for proposed new projects including financial and staffing requirements

The Impact:

The Director for Strategy & Business Development is responsible for leading the implementation of a regional growth strategy and advising market participants, policy makers and the wider energy industry. His/her responsibilities will require lateral management with colleagues across SPGCI and direct guidance for a team of three associate directors. The Director will embody a spirit of “winning together” to build effective teams and draw in the necessary expertise across SPGCI business lines and commercial, technology, financial and legal teams. The key impact will be the delivery of projects that advance energy security, sustainability and affordability in Latin America, and in some cases beyond the region.

  • Extensive professional network in the global energy industry
  • Recognized in the Latin America energy industry as an emerging thought leader and active participant of industry conferences.
  • Track-record building high-performing teams in energy, technology, and policy – focused on information and advisory services
  • MBA, MPA, MPP, Masters in Economics or Engineering demonstrating strong analytic and quantitative skills with 5 years experience, or
  • BA in relevant business, public administration, economics or engineering fields with 15 years of relevant experience demonstrating quantitative and analytic skills and management capabilities
  • Excellent command of major software applications including excel and power point, strong communication and writing skills, demonstrated excellence as a public speaker
  • Demonstrated integrity, commitment to collaborative engagement, appreciation for a customer first culture
  • Clear commitment to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace
