Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team! In this role you will get to provide geotechnical engineering expertise to highly professional and dynamic team responsible for the construction supervision of a major marine project for a high profile client.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Develops and leads investigation, design and technical teams.
  • Understands and manages the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy and design markets, including relationships with clients, work planning, project management and commercial management.
  • Conducts geological, geohazard and other technical investigations, particularly for Civil Engineering and major project purposes and across a wide range of ground engineering environments in the Middle East and Africa.
  • Carries out terrain evaluation of large areas to detailed investigation of specific sites that includes (as a minimum) assessment of ground conditions and production of ground risk assessments.
  • Efficiently utilizes engineering software, particularly GIS for mapping and 3-dimensional terrain and geological modelling.
  • Produces/writes high quality and accurate reports.
  • Delivers excellent and accurate work thru independent effort and team work. Conducts self-check as appropriate.
  • Effectively liaises with stakeholders particularly at project manager and project director level and with clients.
  • Ensure compliance with standard local practice and local authority requirements.
  • May attend business travels, short assignments for specific projects across Middle East Region, Africa and Europe.
  • May complete additional duties as assigned.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Strong academic background with at least a Degree in Geology or Civil Engineering, preferably with a second Degree in Geology or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Chartered status or approaching Chartered status with a recognized professional institution. 
  • At least 10 years’ experience preferably in the following sectors: high-rise buildings, rail, highways & bridges, offshore facilities, offshore reclamation & Marine Edges, onshore pipelines and oil and gas facilities, dams & reservoirs.
  • At least 5 years relevant experience in the MENA Region
  • Adept in using related Engineering software, particularly GIS for mapping and 3-dimensional terrain and geological modelling.
  • Demonstrated technical, commercial and project management track record. Proven experience developing and leading investigation and design teams.
  • Good interpersonal skills. Can effectively communicate and establish amiable relationships across all disciplines and internal and external contacts.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Proficient with local practice, local authority requirements and international standards.
  • Advanced competency related to site and subsurface investigations, foundation design and analysis, and earthwork and slope stability. Intermediate competency related to construction dewatering and ground improvement.
  • Knowledge of seismic-related issues and evaluation of liquefaction potential of soils
  • Familiar with computer applications such as Plaxis 2D and 3D, FLAC, LPILE, APILE, SHAFT, GROUP, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, GRLWEAP, CAPWAP, gINT, Settle3D, and DYNA6.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroStation for drafting geotechnical drawings.
  • Familiar with Geographic Information System (GIS) applications such as ArcGIS.
  • Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate with team in preparation of reports, memos, calculations, and other technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of International/UAE codes and practices.
  • Large Scale Marine Project Experience preferred
