Washington Council EY (WCEY) is a group within Ernst & Young LLP that combines the power of a leading professional services organization with the on-the-ground knowledge, personal relationships and attention to detail of a boutique Washington-insider firm. WCEY has a bipartisan, bicameral team with extensive legislative and regulatory experience that covers the bases to help address all of our clients’ federal health policy needs.

WCEY’s health care practice develops and implements strategies to address legislative and regulatory issues, including client-specific services for payer and provider groups, employers and other stakeholders in the health care industry. We represent clients before Congress and the executive branch on significant aspects of federal health care policy, convene cross-industry coalitions, and lead issue- and legislation-specific campaigns. Our work encompasses public and private health insurance and coverage issues, provider concerns, employer health benefits, consumer issues, pharmaceuticals and broader life sciences policy.

The opportunity

WCEY is looking for an experienced health policy professional to join our team. This individual would work with a team of professionals to develop and execute federal government relations strategies and build relationships with Congress and the Executive Branch. The position will also support the development of WCEY's thought leadership and market-facing activities.

A strong understanding of health care policy and recent experience on Capitol Hill or in the Administration or similar, paired with the ability to analyze health care legislation and regulations and/or legislative and regulatory experience are essential. This position offers excellent opportunities for teaming, leadership and career advancement.

Your key responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of complex health care policy issues, the federal legislative and regulatory process, and the impact of health care legislation and regulation on various health care stakeholders such as providers, payers, life sciences companies, patients, insurers and investors.
  • Demonstrate the political judgment and analytical skills necessary to develop and successfully implement government affairs strategies and apprise the firm about important policy developments.
  • Ability to support client development activities.
  • A successful candidate will know how to sort out relevant information from noise, communicate complex information in a digestible and concise manner, and tailor materials to various audiences.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through a positive and cooperative attitude and by maintaining the confidential and proprietary nature of client relationships and related work products.

To qualify, candidates should have

  • A Bachelor's degree in public policy, political science, health policy, or a related degree
  • Approximately six or more years of professional legislative or regulatory government service or government affairs experience including experience with health policy.
  • Approved technical certification, CPA license or membership to state Bar or progress to attaining those mentioned 
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative research and insights. 
  • A thorough knowledge of major aspects of the U.S. health care system.
  • Comfort with the legislative and regulatory process in health care and working knowledge of Congress and the executive branch
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, including the ability to communicate on multiple levels of various audiences.

What we offer

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $132,300 to $302,200. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $158,800 to $343,400. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances. You’ll also be granted time off for designated EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
