GENERAL DUTIES

CUNY Medicine is a highly collaborative, fast-paced, environment that values expertise and welcomes new thinking and innovative approaches. Reporting to the Director of Communications and College Relations, and working in collaboration with two other communications team members, the Web Developer will advance the structure, user experience, and overall look and feel of the CUNY Medicine website. The website should become a storytelling engine that serves as an impressive digital experience for prospective students, researchers, clinical partners, and the world.

The Web Developer must have a strong background in data analytics to inform website enhancements, as well as a knowledge of web copywriting and an eye for visual storytelling. The incumbent will work independently and in partnership with representatives from various departments to understand their website needs, make insightful recommendations, set reasonable collaborative deadlines, and bring projects to a timely close.The Web Developer be responsible for revamping and standardizing the overall structure of the website, building and deploying new web pages, managing the integration of plugins, improving the mobile experience, and performing routine maintenance.

  • Expertise in WordPress, website accessibility, information architecture, usability, content, and SEO strategy
  • Expertise with sitemaps, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager implementation, keyword research
  • Capacity to develop wireframes, interactive prototypes, comps, specifications, and other design artifacts and to work with partners as needed
  • Knowledge of cross-browser and cross-device compatibility issues and troubleshooting for same
  • Knowledge of industry standards in website development, web/mobile accessibility standards, and web-related products and technology
  • Familiarity with the options and implementation of language translation tools
  • Knowledge of web application security best practices
  • Experience in working with PDF files and the Adobe Acrobat suite
  • Familiarity with graphic production using software applications such as Adobe Photoshop, in addition to a working knowledge of vector-based software applications such as Adobe Illustrator; After Effects or motion design a plus
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with delivering and analyzing web stats tracking and reporting
  • Conducting cross-browser and cross-device testing to ensure consistency across major supported browsers on Mac, PC, iOS and Android platforms, and responsive design.
  • Help write or edit webpage content, or coordinate with others producing content

Remote work is possible, but there will be virtual meetings during business hours and there may be some onsite meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in web development required or six (6) years of relevant full-time experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in website development, management, and optimization
  • Understanding of best practices in web copywriting and visual storytelling
  • Knowledge of medical education, clinical care, and biomedical research is a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time-management proficiencies

COMPENSATION

Non-teaching Adjunct (Level 2): $49.31/hr-$59.00 per hour

(Non-teaching adjuncts may work a maximum of 700 hours per year).
