Creative Direction is the medium where art direction, design, and strategy all intersect. Part Creative and part Strategy; the Creative Director has a key role in almost every project where Design, Strategy, Technology, and Art direction intersect. The Creative Director’s purpose is to connect the various aspects of a project while ensuring the bottom line is never out of sight — guiding, owning, and nurturing a project in a way that reinforces a customer’s experience across the entire brand lifecycle.

This includes development and delivery of Cosmo Prof brand concepting and design, execution and voice through all campaign and omnichannel touch points for acquisition and customer retention. This includes, but is not limited to, 1200+Brick and mortar retail locations, CosmoProfBeauty.com, social media, email, direct mail, national advertising and CRM programs, and in all other digital, print and broadcast marketing materials. This position is a hybrid role, reporting into the corporate office in Denton TX on Tuesdays and Wednesdays of each week, being flexible with additional days in the office when needed.

Essential Function:

The Creative Director is responsible for the overall quality of work produced by the creative department. This is a critical leader within the Marketing organization who guides the creative team, including both copy and design functions, to ensure brand is consistently represented. In addition, this position is the voice of the brand and creates clear and compelling customer messages in all channels and executions. As a member of the marketing leadership team, this role contributes heavily to concept, production, photo, video and content productions, budget responsibilities, channel marketing, content and customer experience decisions and partners with merchandising and store operations teams to create the brand experience. This role is a hybrid role, reporting to the coporate office in Denton TX on Tuesdays and Wednesdays of each week, being flexible with additional days in office when needed.

Primary Duties:

  • Works at the strategic and operational levels, understanding how the “pieces fit together” and providing strategic guidance and coaching to accomplish the task. 
  • Contributes to and manages the development and execution of a wide variety of promotional and communications materials. Looks to continually “raise the bar” by staying informed of customer-centric trends and behaviors, streamlining processes, and planning improvements.
  • Oversees, evaluates and improves work of all internal creative teams to ensure that projects are on strategy, high quality, effective and technically correct. Leads, mentors, advises and oversees the entire creative team. Fosters creative talent among the team.
  • Directs and collaborates with external creative partners and agencies. Assigns them work, provides them with creative direction, reviews work and integrates their concepts/work with internal concepts and work.
  • Partners with executive management and partners to ensure creative collaboration, project objectives and brand requirements are met. Leads and executes marketing initiatives while also working cross-functionally with the appropriate teams internally.
  • Develops new concepts and contributes to business initiatives and special projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Design, Writing, Advertising or related field with strong design portfolio
  • At least 10+ years of experience as a designer or copywriter
  • At least 5+ years experience leading and building a team effectively
  • Experience in both mass, traditional, digital, social and e-commerce channels 
  • Directs effective campaigns within branding guidelines and stated objectives
  • Strategic thinking ability and creative talent to generate breakthrough ideas 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills: highly collaborative with ability to build solid working partnerships across functional groups 
  • Mastered latest versions of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, MAC OS

  • Ability to conceptualize brand editorial through which to tell our story and deliver on the desired result

Working Conditions /Physical Requirements

  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
  • The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
