Job Description:

The Senior Director of Legislative Affairs will lead a fast moving Legislative Affairs team tasked with the development and execution of Government Relations strategies and tactical plans in support of Airbus’ appropriations and authorization priorities. The successful candidate will manage a team of two direct reports and bring to this senior position a broad range of personal experience in and an understanding of U.S. government policy and process, with primary responsibility of advocating for policies and programs that support Airbus’ legislative business objectives. The position will report to the HO of Government Relations. This position will require interaction with senior Airbus executives and require participation in evening and weekend events, as well as some domestic and international travel. This role is based in Washington, DC.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Direct Lobbying and Representation (60%);
  • Develop and execute legislative strategies and tactical plans to advance Airbus’ business priorities, specifically the appropriations and authorization needs of Airbus, Defense and Space and Helicopters. 
  • Represent the company and engage with Members of Congress, the Administration, as well as relevant associations and think tanks to build awareness of Airbus and our key position in the U.S. aerospace market.
  • Carefully analyze and evaluate pending legislation for potential impact on Airbus.
  • Business Development Support (20%);
  • Lead the GR support within the teams to identify business development growth and new opportunities, particularly with defense, space and helicopter programs. 
  • Internal GR Support (20%);
  • Support all GR activities and work with the HO Government Relations to develop clear strategic policy and political objectives for the group. 
  • Drive engagement efforts of the team and communicate with internal, company-wide stakeholders to update them on GR activities, to include business priorities, political updates, PAC solicitations, etc.
  • Supervise and execute the development of communications materials (issue briefs, talking points, sample letters, and correspondence associated with advocacy activities) for both internal and external stakeholders. 

Qualified Experience and Training: 

The successful candidate will bring a combination of exceptional skills and experiences including:

  • A minimum of twelve (12) years Capitol Hill, relevant U.S. Government experience, or relevant industry experience with preference for prior work experience on transportation or defense issues.
  • Experience with successfully managing people and a team to drive high performance and achieve top company objectives.
  • Registering as a federal lobbyist and acting as a spokesperson on issues and programs. 
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively to analyze complex legislative and regulatory issues, while being able to tactically engage on opportunities and/or barriers that impact Airbus programs and business objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal and effective communication skills, including strong verbal and written communications as well as a public speaking ability.
  • Experience with managing budgets and planning/executing internal and external resources. 
  • Energetic self-starter with the ability to integrate effectively and work diplomatically with a broad range of individuals, including senior executives and government officials. A demonstrated track record of mature team interaction and team-building.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Communications, Engineering or related discipline.
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline, or JD, preferred.

Travel Required: 

  • 20% Domestic and International

Citizenship:

  • US citizenship is required
