We are looking for a Associate Director who will be part of our Cape Town Team and perform the role of Associate Director for the South African Natural Resources sector, taking overall responsibility for the delivery, growth, profitability and sustainability of the Western Cape Natural Resources (Oil & Gas) business unit through leadership, new business development, client management and service delivery.

Job Description

Expectations/outcomes of the role;

  • The Western Cape Natural Resources (Oil & Gas) team is effectively structured, engaged and led
  • Have a developed understanding of the market and existing market knowledge and developed network
  • Develop a Natural Resources (Oil & Gas) Business Plan that maximises the T&T position in the market place and achieves the 2025 Vision goals.
  • Strong relationships are developed with clients and cross-functional team members
  • Business development opportunities with existing and new clients, including cross- selling opportunities, are identified and actioned
  • Margin levels and monthly fee/resource forecasts are tracked on all commissions and across all offices
  • Manage debt control
  • Key information and data is effectively cascaded and appropriately retained- General line management responsibilities are effectively discharged
  • Fully understand the wider T&T service offering and can engage clients around these aspects.

Key elements:

  • Responsible for the Strategy, Direction, Leadership and Commercial success of the Turner & Townsend Natural Resources (Oil & Gas) Western Cape business in South Africa.
  • The role and responsibilities will include Marketing, Business Development and Client networking, securing of commissions, Recruitment Technical Staff relating to delivery, establishing a culture of quality delivery, engagement with Regional and global Key Account Clients in Africa
  • The geographic scope is Western Cape, South Africa, however there will be an interface and close working relationship with our teams and offices across Durban and Johannesburg.
  • Contributing to the creation and implementation of strategic and financial plans focused on the growth and development of the market sector; 
  • Ensuring the development of priority plans including risk mitigation, performance measurements, management controls and critical success factors; 
  • Develop a business plan with clear accountability and targets. Compile annual budgets aligning with the business plan and delivering against those targets.
  • Implement and monitor regional and key accounts
  • Compile and review the business plan and take corrective action
  • Prioritize clients, opportunities and assess effort levels and return
  • Build personal relationships with key client decision makers
  • Convert opportunities through management of bid process including global bids, incorporating global best practice
  • Manage and drive process of new product Service Development
  • Taking responsibility for developing new business opportunities with existing and new Turner & Townsend clients
  • Preparing and delivering client presentations on topics of relevant experience and knowledge and/or partnering with other team members to generate new business;
  • Working with Directors and senior management across other sectors and regions to construct bids for new work
  • Attending relevant networking events and promotional opportunities
  • To act as the key, day to day client interface, ensuring that client objectives are met through the delivery of a value added property service Managing new and existing client relationships in growing revenue, through contract renewals, referrals and service expansion; 
  • Manage and oversee operations through commission managers, focusing on problem areas
  • Overall responsibility for governance and compliance with Turner & Townsends internal business management system.
  • Manage Quality Assurance process Providing regular updates regarding the status of projects / initiatives, and where appropriate, highlighting issues of concern, and/or conflict; 
  • To perform the role of the operations Manager, taking overall responsibility for end to end service delivery of commissions of varying size and complexity
  • Identifying and acting upon opportunities to improve procedures, templates, products and strive to continuously improve the services provided to clients
  • Knowledge management – Ensuring that key information and learning generated from each commission is input into the Turner & Townsend internal database
  • Financial management – Utilising the tools provided to track the ongoing margin levels, monthly fee/resource forecasts for each commission and financial reports.
  • Manage billing process and interact with Financial Director and all Commission Managers
  • Manage with the Financial Director the P&L and report at board level on improvement initiatives
  • Negotiating contract fees ensuring profitable outcomes for Business Unit; Managing the operation within the approved budget; 
  • Ensuring client invoices are accurate and issued on a timely basis. Following-up on accounts receivables.
  • Oversee with HR the people process
  • Coaching and mentoring staff, assisting them to achieve professional designations; 
  • Attract and interview candidates to join Turner & Townsend through demeanour, positive attitude and ability to promote Turner & Townsend 
  • Encourage opportunities for the professional development and advancement of all colleagues under your supervision. 

Qualifications

Candidate will hold the following qualifications;

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience 
  • Recognized university degree in the built environment and an integral understanding of services in the NR sector
  • Membership in relevant professional organizations preferably SACQS, ASAQS or RICS
  • Needs to have operated in a consulting environment for at least 5 years at a senior level
  • Significant network and understanding of the Natural Resources (Oil & Gas) sector in South Africa. Knowledge of the broader African market is an advantage.
