Job Description

The Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University seeks a dynamic individual as our Director of Marketing to promote ASU Law amongst prospective students, legal scholars/academic community and administrators, and downtown Phoenix community members by driving day-to-day digital marketing campaigns across all available channels (web sites, social media, banner placements, email, mobile, search, etc.). This position will report directly to ASU Law’s Executive Director of Marketing & Communications.

Essential Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing a team of marketing, web and creative professionals to develop strategies and tactics that will increase customer acquisition through digital media and marketing strategies.
  • Drive testing, reporting, optimization and analysis channel performance to identify key levers and opportunities for improvements.
  • Continuing to evolve web, CRM and other digital assets in partnership with the Information Technology team and our external agency.
  • Building and maintaining digital marketing analytics and reports, to predict trends, create forecasts and measure effectiveness of digital marketing investments and activities.
  • Managing an external media buy agency to execute against recruitment and law school reputation strategies.
  • Creating personalized and memorable experiences through dynamic, relevant content delivered across multiple media platforms for students, the public, and other key stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to create and edit content.
  • Partnering with team members and internal stakeholders (e.g. Admissions, Development, Events, IT), and vendors to effectively reach and engage intended audiences. 
  • Interpreting data (leveraging Google Analytics) to hone engagement strategies and mechanisms. 
  • Conducting ROI analysis to identify highest value interactive/social media marketing campaigns.
  • Actively participating in the development of new ideas, valuable content with the knowledge and ability to create and edit copy, interactive site features and functionality to visitors to ensure delivery of web experiences that result in significant and measurable improvements in understanding, conversion and revenue in support of established goals. 
  • Developing outbound marketing campaigns including creative and message development and execution. 
  • Identifying opportunities and executes membership acquisition and retention marketing programs; prepares summary reports of outcomes against goals. 
  • Leading interactive marketing campaigns including development, execution and analysis according to schedule and within budget. 
  • Assisting Executive Director of Marketing & Communications with executive-level presentations.
  • Ensuring brand consistency across all ASU Law channels; providing guidance to internal and external stakeholders on how to properly use our brand (name, logos, images, etc.).
  • Testing new media technologies and evaluating marketing & communications application.
  • Mentoring and cross-training other team members in areas of knowledge.
  • Physical presence at the workplace or the College is an essential function or requirement of this job.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to support the goals of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and eight years of experience in marketing and product development, which includes five years in a supervisory capacity; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in innovation and delivering digital marketing strategies and tactics that drive traffic and ROI Data driven, with experience in relevant web analytics platforms (e.g. Google Analytics), possessing strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Experience with utilizing insights and measurement to improve effectiveness of strategies and tactics.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience reporting to senior leadership and ability to take highly technical concepts and articulate them for senior level business leaders.
  • Experience in planning and managing budgets across channels, vendors and partnerships.
  • Experience in leading, managing and motivating others, both directly and indirectly.
  • Experience working with an external digital media agency.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in email marketing best practices including message design, subscriber and data management, inbox delivery and external integrations with Salesforce, Marketing Cloud Email application, and Pardot.
  • Design and oversee all aspects of our digital marketing department including our marketing database, email, and display advertising campaigns.
  • Experience evaluating important metrics that affect our website traffic, service quotas, and target audience.
  • Experience in incorporating different tools such as segmentation, automation, tracking, and analytics to make data-driven decisions to optimize email campaigns.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strong analytical abilities, specifically related to understanding large data sets and managing process requirements with ability to summarize complex and technical information in a clear and concise format.
  • Salesforce certification and experience implementing and managing CRM-connected programs are a plus.
  • Experience in marketing, advertising, PR, or events background.
  • Experience in integrating marketing and communications across multiple mediums to drive effective campaigns.
  • Evidence of being a self-starter that takes initiative and responsibility on all projects from start to finish.
  • Experience in writing and editing ad copy.
  • Experience in being a strategic and creative thinker who incorporates data when making recommendations.
  • Experience in demonstrating excellent organization and problem-solving skills.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse. Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions. Use standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor and mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
