Product Owner (Product Sunsetting)

We are looking for a Product Owner specializing in product sunsetting, you will be responsible for managing the end-of-life process for products within our organization's portfolio. Your primary objective will be to ensure a smooth transition for both internal stakeholders and customers as products are phased out. You will collaborate closely with various teams, including product management, engineering, marketing, sales, and customer support, to execute the sunsetting strategy effectively. This role requires strong project management skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to communicate effectively across different departments

Your Role:

  • Develop Sunsetting Strategy: Define and implement a comprehensive sunsetting strategy for products in alignment with the company's goals and objectives. This includes determining timelines, communication plans, and resource allocation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and understanding of the sunsetting plan. Engage with product managers, engineering teams, marketing, sales, and customer support to address concerns and facilitate a smooth transition.
  • Customer Communication: Craft clear and empathetic communication messages to notify customers about product sunsetting. Coordinate with the marketing and customer support teams to disseminate information through appropriate channels, such as email, in-app notifications, and support portals.
  • Migration Planning: Work with product management and engineering teams to develop migration plans for affected customers. Ensure that alternative solutions or upgrades are available and adequately communicated to minimize disruption.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with product sunsetting, such as customer dissatisfaction, revenue impact, or brand reputation. Proactively address issues as they arise and adjust the sunsetting strategy accordingly.
  • Metrics and Reporting: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of the sunsetting process. Monitor metrics related to customer engagement, migration success, and revenue impact. Provide regular reports and updates to senior management.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in the sunsetting process based on feedback, lessons learned, and industry best practices. Identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance the customer experience during product transitions.

Your Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience - 3-5 years in product management, project management, or a related role, with a focus on product sunsetting or end-of-life management.
  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle management principles and methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive projects to completion within established timelines and budget constraints.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Familiarity with agile development practices and tools.
  • Certification in project management (e.g., PMP, Agile Certified Practitioner) is desirable.
