LCRA has is looking for an upbeat, passionate and hard-working Engineering Associate in the Substation Engineering group. You will have a unique opportunity to be involved in the whole lifecycle of substation design projects from planning and conceptual design, to detailed design, construction, and operation. As an engineer in LCRA Substation Engineering Department, you will work on Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Relay and Control designs, review “For Construction” and as-build designs, and work jointly with our planning and project scope development teams. You will experience the opportunity to work along other LCRA departments and external parties to provide innovative SCADA solutions.
You will be trusted to:
- Under the mentoring and guidance of a licensed professional engineer, performs a variety of progressively responsible engineering assignments involving engineering principles in the SCADA, relay and other substation engineering areas
- Provides engineering designs work for substation engineering projects for new and existing installations applying standard designs, department procedures and engineering standard methodologies.
- Adapts, innovates and provides creative solutions to improve current standard designs to existing SCADA systems in substations
- Calculates engineering parameters to determine all vital materials and equipment for project designs such as cable and conduit length and fill, power station service, grounding and shielding calculations among others
- Identify, nail down and document project scope based on record drawings, field technician feedback, site visits and system needs as part of the putting together the scope of substation capital projects.
- Lay out and design standard panels for SCADA and other applications that may include devices such as the SEL-RTAC & GE Harris D20 RTU. Collect other teams needs and philosophies to incorporate and apply very meaningful design principles into the SCADA engineering standards
- Detail RTU wiring and protocol configurations that follow the design drawings using standard naming convention in a workflow process that involves multiple parties and checks to implement designs in the RTU and EMS programming.
- Prepare project reports outlining progress and schedule. Communicates and elevates issues to management. Provides ingenuous solutions and alternatives to address real-life problems in the development of projects. Collaborate with the project management office and communicates project status, schedule and potential issues.
- Plans and designs engineering projects involving relatively few complex features. Performs engineering and design work. Conducts field analysis, inspections and performance tests. Records, compiles, and reports information.
- Master and present technical topics in selected areas of expertise to peers and the team in general. Shares knowledges and seeks mentors and mentor others.
You qualify with:
- Bachelors degree in engineering, engineering technology, engineering physics, biosystems engineering, mathematical science, physical science or related science plus one or more years of post-Bachelors engineering experience relating to the area of engineering specialization required to perform the job.
- Driver's license
You are a great fit with:
- Direct design or field experience in utility or industry automation and control, relay protection and/or SCADA
- Familiarity with CAD Environments and Engineering Document Management systems such as Blue Cielo Meridian or similar .
