We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Junior Environmental Scientist / Ecological Risk Assessor. You will have the opportunity to contribute to various projects aimed at understanding and mitigating the environmental impact of human activities on ecosystems. The successful applicant would support work nationally from its Boston, MA office or one of its New England offices. 

The position would include a combination of field investigation work, environmental and biological sampling, quantitative data evaluation, statistical data analysis and evaluation, and report writing. Travel or field work may be 20%-30% of time. Applicants possessing a working knowledge or experience with conceptual site models, quantitative ecological risk assessment, habitat evaluation, food chain modeling, ecological screening criteria or other ecological impact evaluations are desired.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze data and prepare reports on ecological risk assessment findings.
  • Support field surveys and assessments to collect data on species distribution, habitat quality, and environmental conditions.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to identify potential ecological risks and develop risk management strategies.
  • Conduct literature reviews to gather information on emerging environmental concerns and best practices in ecological risk assessment.
  • Assist in the development of monitoring programs to track the long-term effects of human activities on ecosystems.
  • Utilize various software and statistical tools to analyze and interpret ecological data.
  • Communicate findings to internal stakeholders and external clients through presentations and written reports.

Requirements:

  • A BS or BA degree or higher in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Strong quantitative evaluation, data base and spreadsheet skills
  • Strong knowledge of ecological principles and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet fast-paced demands and the cyclical and deadline-driven nature of consulting.
  • Proficient with the MS Office suite of tools and software.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or State Environmental Protection Agency regulations and policies.
  • Experience in fieldwork and data collection.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
