Job Description

I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

As a Copy Editor for the Beauty and Style Group, you will:

  • Read and edit editorial copy for the Beauty and Style Group verticals to ensure that it is accurate and grammatically correct, easy to read and understand, adheres to individual brand style guidelines, and is written in the correct brand tone.
  • Check editorial copy to ensure names, product names, prices, and links are correct.
  • Communicate regularly with brand editors to ensure smooth copy flow throughout the editorial production cycle.
  • All applicants should possess excellent copyediting and proofreading skills. It’s essential that this person is fluent in working in a CMS, is detail-oriented and able to juggle multiple tasks at once under steady deadline pressure, including, but not limited to, being able to collate fixes from other copy editors, writers, editors and fact-checkers simultaneously.
  • Our ideal candidate must be a good communicator and able to remain calm and organized under deadline pressure. They must be able to turn pages quickly without sacrificing quality of work and negotiate changes with editors diplomatically.

45% - Fact-check/link-check editorial copy.

10% - Ensure smooth copy flow.

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements

Education: College degree (or equivalent) in English or journalism

Experience: Minimum of three years’ professional experience with an emphasis in copyediting, or related professional experience.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess excellent copyediting and proofreading skills.
  • Proficient in CMS.
  • Detail-oriented and able to juggle multiple tasks.
  • Must remain calm and organized under deadline pressure.
  • Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style as well as contemporary magazine usage, digital copy guidelines.
  • Must be able to juggle and adhere to different brand style guides within the Beauty and Style Group.

Pay Range

Salary: $63,000 - $82,000

The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Dotdash Meredith’s total compensation package for employees.
