Learning Technology and Leadership Education

Programs within the Learning Technology and Leadership Education (LTLE) Department prepare students to work with learners across the lifespan. LTLE programs enable students to develop education programs for adults in the workplace; use digital media and technologies to design learning interventions; develop leadership skills to lead teams, departments, organizations, schools, and communities; and develop advanced foundational skills and knowledge for graduate programs. LTLE is home to 20 full-time faculty members and 1 staff member. The following undergraduate and graduate programs are offered by the department:

Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe LTLE department is seeking a full-time tenure track Assistant/Associate professor to begin employment in August 2024.

The successful candidate should: demonstrate a collaborative leadership style that involves working with colleagues both within and beyond the academic unit; articulate an ambitious future-oriented vision for the department that includes attracting diverse new faculty and students to the programs; teach online and hybrid classes in the doctoral program and Educational Leadership program (masters’ and certificate); assist in the development and coordination for classes taught; advise and mentor students in the doctoral and educational leadership programs; serve as a member of students’ dissertation committees; collaborate in research in the field for continuous school improvement; and build capacity and partnerships with school districts and agencies in Virginia, as well as across the country.

  • Qualifications
  • Candidates should hold an appropriate terminal degree in Education, no later than May 2024;
  • Candidates must demonstrate substantial experience as an assistant principal, principal, or other senior leadership role(s) in P-12 setting(s);
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic planning;
  • An established research/scholarship agenda or have a plan for research and scholarship;
  • Demonstrated experience developing curriculum and/or assessment;
  • Demonstrated understanding and/or research in culturally responsive pedagogy/leadership, diversity, equity and inclusion;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated successful experience teaching in higher education, online or in-person (preferred);
  • Experience with global engagement initiatives (preferred); and
  • Demonstrated experience securing external funding (preferred).

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
