Sales Manager

Location: Flexible, Southern England

Job Description:

A member of the Country Management Team, reporting to the Country General Manager and with a functional reporting to the Sales & Marketing Director EU, you will be responsible for a wide range of sales performance activities such as Strategy & Planning, Sales Initiatives & Objectives, People Management and Target Setting & Delivery. This senior position will take responsibility for the management and expansion of the sales team and customer base across the South of the UK. Regular travel will be required, with up 80% of the time spent visiting branches and customers supporting the inside and external sales teams. Some travel to our European headquarters in the Netherlands will also be necessary.

Job Role:

  • Achieve area revenue and profitability targets
  • Actively participate in the budget process for your region
  • Define targets and create annual Sales Plans for your region and sales team
  • Be aware of emerging market trends
  • Develop, and implement creative sales initiatives
  • Conduct effective customer visits and sales presentations
  • Ensure effective handovers of projects to the Branch Operations team and Sales Support team
  • Take responsibility for hiring, retaining, motivating and developing the Sales team
  • Manage complex sales opportunities together with the Sales Representative and Sales Support Engineers

Your Profile:

  • Strong sales and customer focused team player
  • Able to achieve growth and sales goals
  • Strong leader who is able to build and maintain a cohesive & effective sales team
  • Able to sell ideas & concepts to skeptical audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively interact with people at all levels at the customer and internally
  • “Hands-on” and no-nonsense attitude

Experience & Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in Business Administration or a technical discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years Sales Management experience with a strong track record achieved through the management and development of a team
  • Experience in a commercial role in United Rentals' core markets is preferred
  • Proven track record in complex solution selling
  • Experience in the specialist equipment rental industry is preferred
  • Experience with matrix organisations and a foreign support office
  • Valid regular driver's license
  • Proficient in written and spoken English
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office, CRM and online systems)
