Our Product Team

We are the hub of many business units and work to achieve profitability and growth goals through development and execution of state and distribution channel strategy. We’re looking for Personal Lines Product Interns, location variable, with hybrid work options available.

Our Underwriting Team

In addition to the Product interns, we are looking for an intern that will partner with our Underwriting Portfolio Analytics team. The skills and experience necessary in this role are the same as the Product roles. This intern, though, will help the underwriting team analyze countrywide workflows, provide data and support for analytical models, organize data from large data sets, and work with Underwriting leadership to turn insights into actions that will improve profitability and reduce costs.

About You

A successful Personal Lines Product Intern at Nationwide has:


  • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, Risk Management, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Insurance, Marketing, MIS, Business Management or a related field of study
  • Completion of sophomore or junior year is preferred
  • Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience
  • 3.0 GPA or higher is desired


  • Exposure to insurance and risk management concepts
  • Problem solving and analytical skills, including ability to recognize problems, determine appropriate actions, implement solutions and use judgement when appropriate
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with all levels of internal and external contacts
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment
  • Natural curiosity to explore and question
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; SQL or Tableau is preferred

Job Summary

A day in the life of a Personal Lines Product Intern might include:

  • Analyzing large data sets to make or influence strategic business decisions with the guidance of Product Managers
  • Completing tasks involving data science, business reports, and ad hoc analysis
  • Track competitor rate changes and market share
  • Participating in department and company meetings
  • Completing training and developing proficiency on the tools to complete analysis on Personal Lines Products
  • Answering questions about products, coverages or discounts from agents and others associated with Nationwide
  • Completing a project with other interns at Nationwide for presentation to leadership at the end of the summer internship
  • Performing other duties as assigned
