At Reality Labs Research (RL-R), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with experience developing and shipping products for wearable devices while considering a broad range of business and hardware requirements including materials, manufacturability, form factor, ergonomics, and integration of technologies on softgoods substrates. We are specifically looking for a candidate with a history optimizing haptics to an application while influencing the user experience. The candidate will also be energized by managing technology partners to move beyond state of the art while enabling cross functional partners who are focused on all layers of the stack: novel materials, firmware, software, and UX design.

Mechanical Engineer - Haptics and Sensor Development Responsibilities

  • Partner with a cross-functional team of engineers and researchers.
  • Use Siemens NX CAD to design rapid prototypes to complete research studies.
  • Work with first and third party partners to advance the maturity of component technology.
  • Work across the full product development cycle to deliver mechanical component/subsystem designs from concept to production.
  • Manage suppliers for prototypes and production of parts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience developing high-volume consumer products with stringent SWAP-C constraints in such as wearables, mobile devices, or similar.
  • 3+ years experience in 3D CAD modeling (NX, Solidworks, or similar).
  • Experience working cross functionally to rapidly prototyping new concepts.
  • Experience designing for CNC, injection molding, die cutting, lamination.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing wearable devices using elastomers and textiles.
  • Experience integrating haptic components into device.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience managing component vendors.
  • Experience planning and executing DOEs.

$111,000/year to $164,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
