Team Introduction

The Communications Lead, USDS manages all aspects of communications for USDS, including playing a critical role as a bridge and collaborative partner to the Global TikTok business that operates in markets across the world. This includes both external and internal communications, including media relations, message development, thought leadership, crisis and incident management, B2B / partner communications, content and creative asset development for fact sheets, websites, all hands, communication channels. The Communications Lead, USDS will also be a USDS culture champion, unifying the USDS culture with Global TikTok culture and addressing variances as required.

We're looking for a experienced professional with a passion for communications and issues handling at the intersection of corporate reputation, public policy, consumer entertainment, product, and technology. This role requires a proven ability to easily distill and communicate complex security, privacy, safety, product, regulatory, and tech policy issues. You should have experience navigating and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing high-growth tech startups and the current political landscape.

In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. We regularly review our hybrid work model, and the specific requirements may change at any time.

Responsibilities

  • Work with key USDS management to implement the vision and strategic roadmap for USDS and support interoperability with Global TikTok
  • Develop effective relationships with and serve as a business subject matter expert for USDS related communications
  • Successfully create and execute strategic communications plans/programs that advance USDS priorities, including reactive and proactive communications and outreach to engage with and educate diverse stakeholders around issues important to TikTok and our community
  • Engage with TikTok Global Comms teams to address media, industry, and other stakeholders to build trust and manage risk
  • Develop and execute proactive executive visibility programs in partnership with Exec Comms
  • Work in close collaboration with internal stakeholders — spanning Global Comms, Public Policy, Legal, Security, and Trust & Safety— to align on strategic responses to incoming issues
  • Develop and drive company culture initiatives, including leading company wide all-hands, managing internal communications channels, maintaining knowledge hubs and intranets, and external website and collateral

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in corporate communications in a leadership role
  • Expertise developing corporate communications plans aligning internal, external, and stakeholder communications against business priorities
  • Proven performance managing communications in crisis situations, including creating clear directives and follow-through
  • Deep understanding of regulatory, data security, and privacy landscape
  • Ability to weigh big picture objectives with immediate business needs
  • Experience managing high-performing teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working for a matrixed, multinational company
