The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, founded in 2006, has become nationally recognized for its innovative programs. The only public graduate journalism school in the northeastern U.S., it prepares students from diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds to produce high-quality journalism. The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY seeks candidates for an Academic Program Director to serve as the head of the Local News and Accountability Reporting concentration (formerly the Urban Reporting concentration). The successful candidate will also serve as editor of the NYCity News Service, which supports and promotes student work by publishing original reporting and aggregated student work published elsewhere.
The ideal candidate is a journalist with a record of delivering outstanding coverage of local journalism. We’re seeking someone with energy and vision to use New York City as the training ground to teach emerging journalists to report on the intersection of people and power — and generate high-impact local news stories.
The incumbent will help shape the future of the newest iteration of our longstanding, successful program — along with the careers of the next generation of local news and political reporters determined to make a difference as they transform journalism and work to safeguard democracy.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the duties of the Academic Program Director include, but are not limited to:

All full-time and part-time CUNY staff are expected to work in-person at their campus office 70% of their work time. For full-time staff, this is equivalent to 7 out of 10 days of in-person work in a two-week period (e.g., 7 days in-person, 3 days remote). Remote days must be pre-approved by the direct supervisor. This hybrid work schedule is subject to change
