Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Student Analytics in Student Affairs, we are seeking a Strategic Planning Analyst who will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a plan to translate data into insights, ensuring that student success (retention, graduation, and satisfaction data) can be used to support students and be used to support the achievement of desired student, divisional, and university outcomes. The Strategic Planning Analyst, in partnership with Student Affairs leadership, provides expertise and drives the coordination and implementation of the articulation and monitoring of program and project evaluation, student satisfaction, student needs, campus climate, and tracking the use of student services. The Strategic Planning Analyst serves as a consultant and assists Student Affairs offices with the analysis and reporting of student outcomes (academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular). The Strategic Planning Analyst supports the Vice Provost for Student Affairs in the work of the division to support university partners' efforts to achieve desired outcomes with custom data visualizations and analyses to communicate student academic and student experience needs and opportunities for intervention to campus partners.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Aligns assessment strategy with Student Affairs strategic objectives and goals.
  • Translates retention, graduation, and satisfaction data into insights to be used to support students and support the achievement of desired student, divisional, and university outcomes.
  • Collaborates with Student Affairs leadership to plan and implement divisional assessment activities, including consultation on data collection, data analysis, reporting of assessment outcomes, and using results to improve programs and services.
  • Prepares an annual assessment report to summarize findings across the Student Affairs division.
  • Leads the design of clean, impactful, user-friendly data visualizations supporting strategic goals.
  • Communicates findings compellingly and visually through dashboards, reports, briefing decks, stories, scorecards, executive briefings, etc. for different audiences using software like Power BI and Tableau.
  • Provides insights on student behavior patterns and trends, making strategic recommendations from analysis.
  • Designs and builds data visualizations from concept to data analysis to the final step of visualization, informed by principles of good data storytelling.
  • Collects and analyzes various complex data and information; in collaboration with others, performs statistical analysis and summarizes findings in applicable reports or other communication mediums.
  • Uses data visualization techniques to distill and clarify complex processes or data sets.
  • Conducts quality assurance and review of all data visualizations to ensure accuracy, usability, and adherence to existing branding and style guidelines.
  • Creates and maintains a library or repository of analysis documents, slides, and links to dashboards.
  • Works with Student Affairs leadership to develop an efficient system for planning and administering student surveys to minimize survey fatigue and maximize the collection of actionable data.

  • Must possess proven written and verbal skills as related to generating reports and presenting material.
  • Track record of working independently and collaboration with colleagues. Must be able to exercise judgment with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of assessment and evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 5 years of related experience.
  • Additional education (Master's level) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in social sciences or higher education administration or assessment preferred.
  • Three years of experience in outcomes assessment and related activities within a higher education setting.
  • Experience with data-intensive research methodologies including direct experience with qualitative and quantitative research design, instrument design, survey sampling, and managing and analyzing data.
  • Experience maintaining a website.
  • A clear focus on using analytics and assessment to enhance the undergraduate experience.
  • Experience with visualization software, preferably Power BI or Tableau.
  • Experience in preparing clean, impactful, user-friendly data visualizations and infographics.
  • Experience with website creation and maintenance, using WordPress.
  • Some experience with graphic design.
