Our Earth & Environment Team is seeking a Petroleum Engineering Intern to work out of our Boulder, CO or Lakewood, CO office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program with an anticipated graduation date of May 2024 or later.

Your Impact

  • Assist with oil and gas reserve reports and appraisals as needed, with tasks such as these:
  • Review revenue statements and extract data to calculate key economic parameters such as wellhead price differentials, gas shrinkage factor, natural gas liquids yield, average production taxes and other deductions.
  • Locate subject wells in IHS production database and download production data for import into ARIES
  • Set up ARIES databases, import production data, input other economic parameters.
  • Perform decline curve analysis in ARIES to generate production forecasts, run and save economic output.
  • Select appropriate groups of wells as analogs for new development, download and import production data, and prepare type curves.
  • Set up ARIES input for new drilling with forecast from type curves, run and save economic output.
  • Use our Excel market value worksheet template with ARIES output to calculate market value
  • Insert key findings and results into report in Word.
  • Perform research as requested on key technical or economic topics on the internet in general or on OnePetro technical database. 
  • Research information on comparable sales or lease bonus information for oil and gas properties.
  • Assist in calculation of Contingent or Prospective oil and gas resources, using @Risk software for Monte Carlo analysis, and volumetric equations or analogous performance.
  • Assist in estimating budget for new projects and set up in spreadsheet.
  • Perform other data analysis, reservoir simulation, or other petroleum engineering tasks as requested depending on project load.
  • All tasks will be performed under direction of Chief Engineer, and training and guidance will be provided as needed.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of 
  • Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Petroleum Engineering or related, Undergraduate program.
  • Demonstrated interest in Petroleum Engineering or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Petroleum Engineering, or related, Masters or PhD program.
  • Experience using ARIES and @Risk.
  • Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.

Expected Salary: $19.13 - $30.00 per hour
