Data science is an essential ingredient in MZ's growth plan and real time vision for the future. The applied scientist role at MZ capitalizes upon the world's richest mobile marketing data to solve for a range of challenging and engrossing problems. Your projects range from personalization, predicting why and when users churn, to creating efficiency in media buying across different channels. After developing, testing and validating your models, you will work with your teammates, marketing partners and engineering to deploy your models into scalable data products.

What you'll be doing:

  • Build automated machine learning tools to optimize all aspects of MZ marketing efforts, providing actionable insights in real time
  • Design experiments to test the validity of hypotheses around user acquisition strategy and user behavior within MZ products
  • Partner closely with marketers and other teams across the organization to identify impactful business problems and translate them into data and analytics products
  • Collaborate with analysts, providing statistical and modeling guidance on their analyses and projects
  • Educate marketers and your fellow analysts on how to apply statistical rigor to their analyses and business recommendations

Your background and who you are:

  • You have an advanced degree (Masters/Ph.D.) in machine learning, computer science, statistics, operations research, industrial engineering, financial engineering, or other quantitative discipline
  • You have 5+ years industry experience using applied machine learning and/or data mining to solve real-world challenges

  • You are willing to work in a dynamic startup environment and use it as an opportunity to rapidly grow and make an impact
  • You’re a firm believer in the practical application of machine learning and statistics - you have a deep toolkit of techniques and know how to pick the appropriate tool for the challenge at hand
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills to go with your technical expertise. It’s second nature for you to tell coherent and compelling narratives around complicated quantitative concepts that can be easily understood by non-technical stakeholders
  • You’re a team player that is result focused and an intellectually curious self-starter. You bring a "can-do" attitude and are looking to own initiatives end-to-end in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • You take pride in the quality of your work output. Your code, models, analyses and documentation all reflect that of someone who is extremely detail-oriented

Bonus Points:
