Firm Risk Management

Firm Risk Management (FRM) supports Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit, market, liquidity, operational, model and other risks.

Background on the Position

The role will reside within FRMs Liquidity Risk Department (LRD), which is a team dedicated to providing governance and oversight of all liquidity risks arising from the Firms business activities. The successful candidate will be based in London and will provide financial, liquidity and investment risk coverage of the Firm's extensive Public investment offerings within the Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) Division.

Primary Responsibilities

~ Identifying, assessing and monitoring financial and liquidity risks related to the Firms Investment Management business (with specific focus on its Public Investment Fund activities)

~ Analyzing the risk profile of Public side funds in MSIM

~ Collaborating closely with the Investment Risk team to investigate and understand deviations in risk profile

~ Managing new product risk assessments for Public side funds

~ Innovate ways to identify key risks/concentrations and implement processes to actively monitor these risks

~ Preparing and presenting briefings to senior management on key risk issues

~ Executing projects to investigate and improve the risk representation of MSIMs financial risk, liquidity profile and stress testing framework

~ Assist, as needed, with the review and challenge of existing stress models

~ Collaborating with senior business professionals in enhancing stress testing and risk limit setting

~ Communicate results of analyses with relevant stakeholders and create high quality reports for Boards, Regulators and internal use on a regular basis

~ Liaise with Corporate Treasury, business personnel and risk managers to ensure the appropriateness of the representation of Investment Management liquidity risks

~ Maintaining active dialogue with business units, Corporate Treasury, risk management colleagues, and other groups regarding business strategies, risk representation, and limit compliance

Qualifications

Required Experience

~ Excellent academic background, preferably with a degree in business, finance or a quantitative discipline

~ 6-8 years relevant experience working in a Risk Management or Asset Management department at a large financial institution preferred

~ Strong understanding of financial risk, liquidity, investment management and financial products

~ Knowledge of various public investment fund types including public equity, public fixed income, CLOs and money market funds

~ Strong quantitative skills

~ Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to provide information in usable formats (synthesize complex data sets and problems and conceptualize appropriate solutions)

~ Ability to work independently in a self-directed way in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

~ Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, both written and verbally

~ Strong organizational skills with an interest in working in a fast-paced environment, often balancing multiple high priority deliverables
