Team Overview

BlackRock SMA Solutions helps clients customize portfolios for unique tax, values-alignment, or investment exposures across direct indexing, fixed income, active equity, and multi-asset. We deliver world-class service to all of our clients, from wealth advisors to family offices to endowments and foundations.

This position plays a key role in developing and maintaining our investment technology base and delivering new platform functionalities. You'll be responsible for maintaining, extending, and developing our data processes, from ingestion, ETL, to presentation. You will be responsible for design, implementation, and maintenance of all aspects of our data infrastructure with a focus on data integrity and security.

This position is roughly 60% database administration, 40% database development and support.

Key Responsibilities

Work with the Systems Architect and other stakeholders to create and maintain high performance, highly available, highly scalable database - this includes but is not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain high-performance, highly available, resilient database infrastructure to serve both transactional and research systems.
  • Develop and maintain database back-up and disaster recovery infrastructure.
  • Data infrastructure development: data flow design, data warehouses and databases, data archiving strategy
  • Develop and maintain database and monitoring
  • Data infrastructure maintenance: monitoring, tuning, troubleshooting, maintenance, backup
  • Assisting Application Developers with the creation of queries and database functions, provide guidance on performance and optimization
  • Identifying and applying proactive solutions and corrective measures to minimize downtime
  • Creating and maintaining scripts to automate common operations and maintenance tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of database administration experience supporting application development teams/projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills, attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate and follow up effectively and professionally with other business departments
  • Self-motivated, self-pacing, proactive attitude essential to prevent foreseeable issues/problems
  • Cloud-native infrastructure operational and experience, e.g. CloudNativePG, various PostgreSQL operators
  • Strong understanding of, or experience with, DBA tasks supporting relational databases in an enterprise environment, including PostgreSQL 12 or higher

Highly Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Advanced PostgreSQL administration experience highly desirable
  • Python (or other programming languages) development experience desirable
  • Related experience in the financial or investment sector is a big plus
  • Experience in database security and data lifecycle

For California only the salary range for this position is $161,500 - $200,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
