Key Responsibilities:

  • Help execute BMS Cloud/Hosting Strategy, including Application Re-platforming & Refactoring.
  • Ensure the availability, performance, security, and scalability of production database systems.
  • Monitor database performance and manage parameters to provide fast query responses.
  • Maintain database backup and recovery infrastructure.
  • Perform regular patch management and upgrade duties.
  • Collaborate with the DevOps team to ensure smooth integration of database changes into the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Work on automating database deployment and scaling processes using containerization (e.g., Docker) and orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of infrastructure as code (IAC) scripts related to database provisioning and management.
  • Profile server resource usage and optimize as necessary.
  • Tune database queries for maximum speed and efficiency.
  • Mentor team members on the recommendations and implementations around the best practices for database operations.
  • Work closely with application developers to ensure the database design aligns with the application's data access and usage patterns.
  • Support and use the DevOps delivery model and Agile project delivery methodology.
  • Identify and implement improvements to the organization's DevOps practices and processes.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of the DevOps hosted applications and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Manage incidents, requests and implement changes leveraging ITIL tools and processes.
  • Serve as escalation point for application related issues and operational incidents (on a 24 x 7 x 365 calendar).
  • Ensure applications have an appropriate run support model, including monitoring and escalation processes.
  • Ensure compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with other technical groups on technology issues and solutions.
  • Work with Cyber Security team to maintain security and data protection for portfolio of applications.
  • Work with software development teams, operations teams, and other stakeholders to ensure the reliability and scalability of a portfolio of applications.
  • Support tech debt management by working closely with the application owners by maintaining tech stack. 
  • Create and maintain documentation for database design, processes, and workflows.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience with major relational database systems including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with My SQL and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or Redis is a plus.
  • Experience with database tools (e.g., RMAN, pgAdmin).
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies.
  • Familiar with DevOps tools like Jenkins, Git, Ansible, Terraform, etc.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a matrixed environment and to influence adoption of new thinking and technology.
  • Strong learning agility.
  • Exhibit a positive work approach, with high productivity and a collaborative spirit.
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, and attention to detail.
  • Experienced in working with managed service providers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a team player mentality.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with Pharmaceutical regulatory requirements, infrastructure qualification and validation of applications.
  • Certification in database management.
  • AWS or Azure professional certification.
