Job Description:

Senior UX Designer

Broomfield, CO

Are you motivated by designing sophisticated tools that solve hard problems for the technologists and leaders at the world’s most complex businesses? Do you enjoy working together on a team dedicated to designing great product experiences, that knows how to have fun and bond as a community across miles, time zones, and roles? Do you want to create, share, teach, learn, and innovate with us as we explore the transformational effects of powerful software tools?

If this sounds awesome to you, then you’re ready to join us on the Product Design team in the Agile Operations Division (AOD) of Broadcom. We are seeking a Senior UX Designer to create great designs for our Rally® product and other offerings in our ValueOps product suite. Rally is an enterprise class Agile lifecycle management platform built for multiple teams and used by many of the world’s largest companies.

Our teams value respect, trust and transparency, collaboration and teamwork, having fun, and giving back to the community. We believe that diversity of thought and backgrounds makes us stronger, makes our products better, and makes our customers happier.

What you will accomplish

As a Senior UX Designer, you’ll be responsible for strategic and tactical design projects that address current and future needs of our Rally users. This is a mid-level practitioner role with opportunities to grow as a designer, steer product direction, and collaborate across boundaries. In this role you can expect to:

  • Develop a broad and deep understanding of our primary users, their responsibilities, and the workflows and capabilities in Rally that are most important to them.
  • Make significant design contributions, delivering high-quality work that advances the product and lives up to our design standards.
  • Seek out and incorporate feedback from end users, stakeholders, and peers at every stage of the product lifecycle.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with Product Managers, Engineering, Documentation, Support, and of course, your Product Design colleagues.
  • Internalize the long-term Rally vision, think holistically about the product and its place in our customers’ businesses, and have an influential voice in the Rally product roadmap.
  • Work in cadence with our mature Agile teams, embracing a mindset of rapid learning, experimentation, iteration, and close collaboration.
  • Thrive in an environment that balances autonomy with teamwork, rewards divergent as well as convergent thinking, and values your participation in long-term and short-term product decisions.
  • Synthesize user needs, best practices, business priorities, market directions, engineering constraints, and other contextual information to formulate, articulate, and advocate for design decisions.

Skills & experience

To qualify for this position, you must have:

  • BA/BS degree with five (5) years UX design experience, or MA/MS with three (3) years of UX experience, or a PhD. Relevant degree fields include UX Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, Multimedia, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Software Engineering, Human Factors, Cognitive Science, Psychology, or other creative, design, or human behavioral discipline.
  • A portfolio of the design projects you are most proud of, showing what you do and how you work to deliver great outcomes for your users.

To be successful, you will come to this role with solid design skills and a collaborative mindset:

  • Excellent interaction design skills.
  • Experience designing complex applications for technical or expert users.
  • Ability to communicate all phases of UX design, from initial concept through detailed screen designs.
  • Enthusiastic and proactive about collaborating with customers, Product Managers, Engineers, UX Researchers, and other UX Designers to understand needs and deliver great designs.
  • A good understanding of Agile teams, practices, and principles.

To really stand out as the perfect person for this role, you may also have:

  • Expertise in multiple design disciplines, such as visual design, user research, information architecture, prototyping, design systems, etc.
  • Experience designing in a large, distributed Agile product development environment.
  • Passion for teaching, coaching, and generally sharing what you know.
  • Experience conducting design sprints, design thinking sessions, or other cross-functional workshops.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with WCAG accessibility standards.

We understand that employer agreements or the nature of your projects may prevent you from sharing a portfolio of actual designs, product or client names, etc. If this is the case, you can instead provide a brief written summary of selected projects that includes:

  • your role and who you collaborated with,
  • the scope of the project,
  • specific methods applied and the types of artifacts you produced,
  • how your designs contributed to project outcomes, and
  • any other information that will help us assess your skills and experience for this role.
