Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 7 years of experience with machine learning algorithms and tools (e.g., TensorFlow), artificial intelligence, deep learning and/or natural language processing.
  • 5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.
  • Experience distilling solutions and drive designs from sets of requirements.
  • Experience with designing, developing, launching, and managing production models with applications to text, image, or multimodal.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science (e.g., graph, ontology/knowledge bases, statistical relationships focus) or ML/AI focused degree or experience in production environments.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex organization involving cross-functional, and/or cross-business projects
  • Experience with taxonomic classification across modalities.
  • Experience with unsupervised models (i.e., BERT, MUM-style architecture, etc.).
  • Experience with evaluating models in production environments.
  • Excellent technical judgment and ability to balance short and long-term tradeoffs and tensions.

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer you will be responsible for shaping the ML/AI engineering strategy for some of the most widely used and impactful content understanding products in Ads and beyond (i.e., experiences in Google Ads, YouTube, Gmail, Search, etc.). You will partner with senior leaders across Google to determine the overall approaches to and investments in ML/AI/GenAI, with direct applications to our most challenging problems. Your expertise will be applied to a range of problems in the field such as large taxonomies, foundational content understanding models, and platforms for rapid end-to-end modeling.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $77,000-$110,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Contribute to shaping the engineering strategy, approaches, and investments in ML/AI/GenAI at Google Ads.
  • Partner with engineering leaders across Ads Understanding to develop engineering strategy and advance Core Signals products.
  • Lead, design, review business critical features across our teams in the context of ML/AI/GenAI across modalities and products.
  • Build the state of the art ML/AI/GenAI capabilities to solve the growing need and complexity of customer needs.
  • Own the engineering culture along with leadership, set the bar for engineering practices, and coach and mentor the team.
