Description
The Kentucky Public Pensions Authority (KPPA) operates three state administered retirement systems with $24.9 billion in combined assets. KPPA is responsible for the investment of funds and administration of pension and health insurance benefits for over 421,000 active, inactive and retired state and local government employees, state police officers and non-teaching staff of local school boards and regional universities.
The KPPA Office of Legal Services is responsible for providing legal counsel to other parts of the agency and helps review proposed legislation.
The Office of Legal Services has two divisions: Non-Advocacy and Advocacy. The Division of Non-Advocacy focuses on Board and Committee services, Administrative Hearings, Open Records, investigations, responding to member inquiries on high level issues, contract reviews, and policies and regulations. The team consists of attorneys, paralegals, legal secretaries, administrative support specialists, and other professionals who are responsible for ensuring legal compliance.
KPPA is searching for a Co-op/Intern to join our Office of Legal Services, Division of Non-Advocacy. This individual will provide assistance to and collaborate with the team by contributing to various projects and cases handled in the division.
The candidate will primarily assist with drafting Orders and memos and conducting legal research related to Administrative Hearings, Board or Committee meetings, Open Records, regulations, and other legal topics and tasks as necessary. The ideal candidate will be enrolled in law school and have proficient skills in legal writing and research.

This is an Interim position. An Interim position means a position established to address a one-time or recurring need of less than nine (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be enrolled on a full-time basis in high school as a junior or senior or enrolled at an accredited Kentucky post-secondary school or other educational institutions approved by the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet. Applicants must furnish proof of enrollment in such a program to the Personnel Cabinet.
Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
