The Whole Life Engineering Directorate (WLED) is made up of several disciplines whose main objective is to influence hardware and systems early in their life cycle to assure effective operation, reliability, maintainability and economical ownership by the customer and end user.

WLED seeks a Technical Writer / Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) developer who will be responsible for the development and maintenance of Extensible Mark-up Language (XML) Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) and Training Material created using the EAGLE Publishing System.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Development of IETMs and training material, including material addressing:
  • System functional theory
  • Operations
  • Preventative and corrective maintenance, schematics and illustrated parts breakdowns from compiled engineering technical reports, drawings, and parts lists
  • Train the Trainer Radar courses and identification of required student Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs), and Programs of Instruction (POIs).

You’ll also participate in the following exercises:

  • IETM validation
  • Customer conferences to ensure manuals conform to contract requirements
  • Identification of supplier manual content requirements
  • Budget and schedule compliance

In addition, you will assist in following:

  • Development of illustrations, graphics and flow diagrams to support documentation
  • Support contract deliverable documentation
  • Coordinate with Technical Trainers to identify and provide technical manual documents to support Organizational Level training courses

Requisition 163420BR has the option of Work-From-Home, with the RMD office based in Marlborough, MA. Onsite attendance at certain critical meetings may be required, and employee is responsible for any commuting expenses between their home office and the Marlborough, MA facility.

This job may require local travel to our other New England offices.

This position can be a salary grade G08 or G09 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience, education and responsibility requirements for the position.

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only US Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Required Skills

  • 4+ years’ experience creating written technical or non-technical documentation in a military or civilian environment.
  • At a Grade G08, 2+ years of experience in the aforementioned areas along with a relevant Master's Degree may be considered for this job.
  • At a Grade G09, 4+ years of experience in the aforementioned areas along with a relevant Master's Degree may be considered for this job

Desired Skills

  • Related experience in logistics support, system fielding and implementation or project or program life cycle management
  • Familiarity with standards-based, XML tagging processes and designs and applications for data product developments and engineering to include developing illustrations, tagging and build rules with S1000D, MIL-STD 3031, MIL-STD 40051-1 and -2, 2361, MIL-PRF 38784, MIL-DTL 24784, SCORM, TRADOC 350-70, NAVAIR INSTRUCTION 13034, MIL-HDBK 29612, MIL-HDBK 1222, and others.
  • Experience with RADAR and related technologies
  • Experience development technical documentation, training material or conducting courses for the department of defense or foreign military customers
  • Technical Manuals IETMs (class 4 level) experience.
  • Participation in proposal processes to develop and review cost estimates/proposals
  • Knowledge of product life cycle management
  • Understanding of Earned Value fundamentals and project budgetary management experience.
  • Experience rolling out training in a variety of forms (online and face-to-face) and to a large audience
  • Experience with the Agile development process/environment
  • Technical leadership experience and leading other team members during problem resolution
  • Knowledge of export control regulations (ITAR/EAR)
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and influential skills, interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, team building skills, and multitasking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise cultural sensitivity
  • Experience with NGRAIN simulation software and/or Basic computer animation skills

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree (English, Journalism, Technical Writing, or a major related to this job description preferred). 8+ years of relevant practical experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
