The Staff Mechanical Design Engineer will report to the Advanced Mechanical Systems design sub-section manager and be responsible for the mechanical design, manufacture, and delivery of hardware used in the development testing of the next generation of narrow body jet engines. You will be responsible for the design of mechanical systems hardware (e.g. bearings, sumps, gears, lubrication systems) on RISE engine ground/flight test demonstrators, rig tests, and product designs.

This position has the flexibility of optional hybrid schedule once fully trained. The hybrid schedule consists of working in the office minimum of 3 days per week and the option to work from home on the other days, based on team/project schedules.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work with a closely integrated team of engineers and scientists to design the next generation of jet engine turbomachinery.
  • Work closely with internal and external manufacturing organizations to deliver hardware for rig, core, and full engine testing.
  • Develop and implement plans to ensure that contract requirements are fulfilled.
  • Lead efforts to solve both technical and schedule related problems.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other personnel.
  • Present work to subject matter experts and program leaders at technical reviews.
  • Participate in technical reviews as a reviewer.
  • Ensure work is thoroughly documented.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Aeronautical Engineering
  • At least 5 additional years of experience in an aerospace or mechanical design engineering position

Desired Characteristics

  • 8+ years of experience in the design, analysis, manufacture or testing of mechanical systems components (bearings, sumps, seals, gears, lube/P&V systems).
  • Highly motivated, self-starter who is passionate about inventing the next generation of aviation technology.
  • Flexible, friendly, and collaborative approach to working in teams.
  • Outstanding mentoring skills and a strong desire to help others succeed
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Uncompromising desire to ensure the safety of the travelling public as well as that of fellow employees.

Titles for similar roles used at other engineering companies might include Principal Engineer, Lead Engineer, Senior Engineer, Technical Lead, or Engineering Team Leader.
