Department Summary 

UNT TRIO Programs encourage and assist students from disadvantaged backgrounds in meeting their educational goals. The TRIO Upward Bound program provides assistance in the areas of academic support, personal concerns, career exploration, and post-secondary information to identified students. The primary purpose of the federally-funded program is to prepare students in grades 9-12 to attend and graduate from college.

Position Summary 

The Upward Bound students attend academic classes specifically designed for them during UNT’s first summer session. We are seeking to staff the following classes:

math (up to pre-calculus)

laboratory science (biology, chemistry, forensics, etc.)

composition

foreign language

drama

volleyball

basketball

We are also looking for individuals who have a unique and intriguing area of expertise that is not listed here. The classes that have been offered in the past include yoga, psychology, business administration, outdoor skills, journalism, health and fitness, etc.

Minimum Qualifications 

High School diploma and some work experience

Preferred Qualifications 

Required License / Registration / Certification

Hours Vary:

Morning Teachers 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Afternoon Teachers 12:15 PM – 6:00 PM

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend training on TBD and complete any additional training TBA
  • Create an 9-10 session curriculum with the help of Assistant Director (AD)
  • Provide the AD and students with a syllabus
  • Provide a Pre-Test and Post-Test based on course curriculum
  • Create and administer quizzes
  • Provide lesson plans
  • Select an outstanding student from all of your classes to receive an award
  • Maintain control of the classroom environment
  • Be visible to and interactive with students and staff
  • Enforce UB policies as written in the Student Handbook
  • Act as a positive role model for the students
  • Keep Administrative Staff informed of any unusual student behavior
  • Complete student evaluation reports at the interval requested by staff
  • Adhere to the “Service Agreement,” “Code of Ethics,” and job description
  • Fulfill any other duties as requested by Administrative Staff
  • Ensure the participation of every student
  • Teach the fundamentals of sports (recreation teachers)
  • Prepare students for a performance (fine arts teachers)
  • Conduct an evening dress rehearsal (fine arts teachers)
