As the Shared Lab Resource Assistant I, you will perform a variety of support activities at a lower scientific complexity level and function as a key support to the operations and research customers.

Responsibilities:

  • With appropriate supervision, performs various procedures or SOPs to carefully operate and conduct maintenance of core equipment. Notifies senior personnel or supervisor of equipment malfunction or other issues that need immediate attention. Performs quality assurance on all assigned activities per procedures or SOPs. Assists with collecting, receiving, processing, transporting, or storing of supplies from various labs. Provides customer service, receives/answers and processes departmental communications through iLab ordering system, or email, or phone and/or voicemail, or other technology used for communication. Performs appropriate cleaning procedures for specific area and maintains adequate stock of supplies, inventory management of transporting and distributing supplies as needed.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work independently or in a team environment with supervisor oversight. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Entry level position. After selection and placement into this job, three months on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation and CCF policies.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to transport equipment and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to understand and follow detailed scientific or medical instructions given by investigators and/or veterinarians
  • Ability to work in an environment of unpleasant odors and sights
  • Subject to animal bites and scratches
  • May be required to work with biological, chemical and radiation hazards after proper training.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
