Job Description

Discovery Biotherapeutics at AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join a dynamic team supporting biologics drug discovery and engineering. In this role, you will be serving as a point contact for pipeline support and contribute a leading role in next generation platform development. The ideal candidate should have strong experience with antibody production, and familiarity with automation technologies is highly valued. Beyond expression and purification, day-to-day pipeline support would entail both designing and evaluating the protein sequences prior to production as well as performing the analytics for biophysical attributes (MS, SEC, DSF) as well as function (ELISA, FACS). Other desirable skills include proficiency with a variety of molecular cloning techniques as they relate to biologics assembly and knowledge of antibody fragments and mimetics. Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • BS or equivalent education with typically 7-10+ years of experience, MS or equivalent education with typically 5-8+ years of experience, or PhD with typically 0+ years of experience.
  • Experience with biologics, antibody fragments and mimetics.
  • Understanding of protein structure and function
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture and transfection
  • Experience with protein purification and in vitro analytical techniques for protein characterization (e.g., SEC, MS, DSF)
  • Strong molecular biology skills (e.g., molecular cloning)
  • Competency with software programs, including MS Excel, Powerpoint, Word
  • Familiarity with sequence analysis tools (Vector NTI, Geneious, Genedata)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Team player with the ability to operate in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automation of Biologics discovery processes (Hamilton, Tecan, Dynamic Devices, collaborative robots)
  • Experience with bacterial cell culture
  • Direct experience with binding assays (e.g., ELISA, flow cytometry)
  • Flow cytometry experience
  • Familiarity with programming (Python, VBA)
  • Proficiency with the software programs Prism, Geneious, Sequencher, Genedata
