Position Title: Creative Content Writer & Managing Editor, Internal Publications (Reg FT)

General Summary: Researches and writes original copy for a host of college publications and assists in writing for other mediums, including but not limited to, TV and radio transmissions, the web and social media as and when required. Serves as managing editor for the college’s internal e-newsletter. Functions as copyeditor for a full range of communications. 

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in creative writing, journalism, marketing, communications, liberal arts or related field and a minimum of four years’ related experience. Knowledge of and experience with AP style, copyediting marks required; experience in higher education marketing & communications and/or agency experience preferred.

Must be comfortable turning around copy quickly and willing and able to meet tight deadlines. Must be knowledgeable of standard publishing industry lingo; copyediting notations and marks; and AP Style. Must also be well-versed in writing styles and formats and able to write for various mediums. Must be detail-oriented and skilled at fact checking sources. Able and willing to work weekends and evenings when necessary. Some limited regional travel required.

Duties: 

  1. Researches and writes copy for college-related publications.
  2. Works with the chief marketing & public relations officer to develop new communications pieces. Manages projects through the editorial, design and production stages. Keeps projects on track and within budget. Ensures that all publications adhere to current brand and production quality standards.
  3. Gathers information from original and sourced material, arranging and conducting interviews with internal and external content experts when necessary. Works with members of the college community, including administrators, faculty, students and alumni in order to develop communication pieces. Also works with external partners such as business & industry leaders and civic organizations.
  4. Assists other departments, serving as internal consultant on publication/project development, positioning and messaging. Represents the department on various college committees and subcommittees.
  5. Provides assistance and editorial review for external and internal college publications and ensures branding standards and guidelines are adhered to and are consistent across the college.
  6. Provides copywriting, editing and proofreading for a variety of internal constituents.
  7. Performs other related duties as required or as assigned.

Clearances: Current criminal record/child abuse clearances will be required if offered the position and in order to be employed at the College. The three clearances are Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Check.
