About This Role:

The Director of Web and Digital Strategy is responsible for leading the university’s digital web presence and connecting it across traditional and emerging media, ensuring the development and execution of integrated strategies. This role is both a team leadership role and one that must maintain subject matter expertise, requiring a balance between management/supervisory skills, an ability to motivate and inspire, client relations expertise, technical experience and knowledge of content management platforms, user experience best practices, search engine optimization strategies, accessibility standards, and web optimization. The successful candidate will be critical in developing processes and protocols that enhance the Division of Communications and Marketing’s overall ability to elevate the university’s web presence.

Key duties include:

  • Plan, execute and evaluate digital web and online content strategies at the institutional level and in collaboration with university partners at the campus, college, departmental and unit levels.
  • Create and maintain key tracking protocols in service of data-informed decision-making, including establishing key KPIs, analyzing strategy success utilizing Google Analytics and other tools, and optimizing the university’s web presence accordingly.
  • Direct staff in leading digital UX and SEO initiatives that elevate the university’s web presence.
  • Supervise/manage daily staff operations and direct web team processes and priorities, ensuring timely delivery of UX, SEO and programmatic solutions. Process development to include but not limited to project intake and prioritization, browser/format testing protocols, and more.
  • Serve as the primary CMS administrator, ensuring appropriate maintenance and ongoing development as needed, ensuring solutions that are user-inclusive and meet all required WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Serve as the lead for other key web-based solutions, including the university events calendar system, university blogs, RSS feeds, Google Webmaster tools, etc.
  • Collaborate with creative director and across division units in stewarding the university brand by identifying and developing service tools and resources to aid in institutional adoption and sustained brand experience in the digital space.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, computer science, computer information systems, computer engineering, business or other related degree or equivalent experience.
  • Five to 10 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-plus years experience in web management and/or marketing-oriented web development.
  • Considerable knowledge of web technologies, including content management systems.
  • Working knowledge of search engine optimization and analytics, and how to use these tools to improve performance and drive strategic priorities.
  • Working knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Deep understanding of how to connect user experience best practices across a variety of digital media platforms.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and other relevant programming languages.
  • Ability to integrate and interpret Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of programming languages, including but not limited to: HTML, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, JSON, XML, XSL and XSLT.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Working knowledge of AP style.
  • Working knowledge of web interactions and requirements between CMS and CRM systems.
  • Google Analytics certification and/or an equivalent credential.
  • Higher education experience.
  • Experience leveraging CMS systems across large, decentralized organizations.
  • Experience working with data visualization tools and libraries, such as D3, Highcharts, and ArcGIS.
  • Marketing/advertising agency experience.
  • Knowledge and familiarity of version control systems (i.e. Git).
  • Strong customer service orientation and commitment to the University’s inclusive mission, with a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and a proven ability to work effectively and collegially under pressure.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accountability for results with the ability to plan and organize work to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with creative teams, identify and support brand standards, successfully manage interpersonal relationships, work within strict deadlines, think creatively and learn new technology quickly.
  • Ability to interact effectively in a diverse environment and with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the K-State Principles of Community.
