Senior Data & Analytics Engineer 

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE ROLE

  • Experienced in Agile WoW. An Agile mentality and proactiveness are a must
  • Collaborative and progressive approach to engineering. Experience using Jira/Azure Dev Ops.
  • Modern development practices like Mob programming, Test driven development, or Pair programming experience.
  • Knowledge of Data Mesh and Data Products
  • Experience with modern DevOps practices: CI/CD, Github, Automation Testing, etc.
  • Technologies like Snowflake, DBT, Kubernetes, Qlik Replicate, Fivetran/HVR
  • Expert in some of the following languages - Python, Scala, R, Java, and SQL

THIS IS WHAT YOU’LL DO 

We are recruiting a Senior Data Analytics Engineer to join our Data, Analytics & AI group. 

As part of our transformational journey on Data & AI in Operations, we are taking the steps to advance our Operation Data Hub (ODH) to Data Mesh architecture. ODH exists to give all Operations units access to critical data and analytic tools at pace, accelerating their work on life saving medicines. The vision of ODH is also accelerating Operations’ data strategy of making our data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Re-useable (FAIR). This is being achieved through the creation of a distributed data architecture, management of our data and data products will sit at the heart of this. 

As a Senior Data Analytics Engineer, you will join a team of data engineers to support solution development. You will provide technical leadership, throughout software development life cycle, from the initial development of a technical design based on solution blueprint , right through the hypercare. You are a T-shaped engineer and leader, a person with a broad range of knowledge and experience across data & analytics.

It is our goal to create scalable solutions to support the development of valuable data products and address broad range of data use cases from Operations, including batch analytics based on data warehousing, data mart and Big Data stack, and emerging use cases on real-time analytics based on streaming. 

Our technology is focused around the AWS stack, existing technical components include S3, SAP HANA, SAP MDG, SAS DQ, Amazon EMR, Hudi, Qlik Replicate, Qlik Sense, Power BI. Moving forward, we are consolidating our technology estate, rolling out modern data engineering stack, such as: Snowflake, DBT, AWS Kinesis. 

The core of our development and support team are based in Chennai, with deep technical expertise based in the UK and Sweden. You will also work closely with the Enterprise Data & AI teams to leverage central Enterprise Data Platforms for Data Cataloguing, Master Data Management and Reference Data Management. 

YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE MANY OF THE FOLLOWING SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in modern DevOps practices, including
  • Continuous Integration: Automating the process of integrating code changes frequently and consistently into a shared repository
  • Continuous Deployment: Automating the release and deployment of code
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Managing and provisioning infrastructure resources
  • Configuration Management: Managing and automating the configuration of systems, applications, and services to ensure consistency and minimize manual intervention
  • Automated Testing: Implementing automated testing practices, such as unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests, to ensure software quality and detect issues early in the development process.
  • Continuous Monitoring: Implementing monitoring and observability practices to gain insights into the performance, availability, and health of applications and infrastructure, enabling proactive issue detection and resolution.
  • Version Control: Using version control systems (e.g., Git) to manage and track changes to source code, configurations, and other artifacts, enabling collaboration, traceability, and easy rollbacks.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Promoting effective collaboration and communication among cross-functional teams (developers, operations, QA, etc.) to foster transparency, share knowledge, and streamline workflows.
  • Agile Methodologies: Applying agile principles and practices, such as iterative development, frequent feedback, and adaptive planning, to enhance collaboration, flexibility, and responsiveness in software development and delivery.
  • DevSecOps: Integrating security practices and considerations throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring the security and compliance of applications and infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in a wide range of modern data tools, ETL frameworks, and monitoring technologies.
  • Familiarity with Data Mesh and Data Product concepts, including experience in delivering and managing data products.
  • Strong data orchestration skills to effectively manage and streamline data workflows and processes.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based data management services.
  • Advanced SQL skills for data analysis and manipulation.
  • Experience in designing data architectures, including dimensional modelling.
  • Building scalable and highly available analytics solutions.
  • Proficiency in data analysis techniques such as profiling, investigating, interpreting, and documenting data structures.
  • Experience in managing and providing support to data solutions in BAU scenarios.
  • Coaching and mentoring skills to guide and develop junior team members and foster team bonding.
  • Experience in leading data teams in complex international organizations, understanding motivation, drivers, and development goals of team members.
  • Advanced experience with project delivery and agile methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, including fluency in English.

It is also desirable for candidates to demonstrate: 

  • Domain knowledge: Understanding of manufacturing, supply chain, logistic, product development life cycle. 
  • Experience of visualisation technologies (we are focused on Power BI and Qlik Sense), 
  • Understanding of the structure, provenance and meaning of the source data crucial to these data domains. 
  • Knowledge of data privacy, GxP, GDPR regulation.
