ABOUT US

The Innovation & Design (I&D) team is pioneering Bain’s firm-wide efforts to meet unprecedented client demand for digital innovation, new business building, product & service solutions to drive new growth.

I&D brings together a diverse mix of Innovation Consultants, Strategic Designers, Product Managers and Tech specialists to ensure that we are supporting our clients throughout their digital transformation and innovation journey. Together, we create bold new ventures, radically improve customer experiences, driving commercial growth with our clients by embracing digital innovation and new ways of working.

Common stages of work include:

  • Discovery: Help clients understand the business, user and technology landscape. Identify priorities and assess risks to generate a transformative path forward.
  • Ideation: Use design principles to guide ideation, continue to refine priorities and focus on highest potential opportunities.
  • Design and Validate: Create concept experiences based on deep user ethnography to bring an idea to life, and test customer desirability, commercial viability and tech feasibility.
  • Create and Launch: Build experiences, products, services, and launch full-scale new businesses/business models
  • Scale: Drive commercial growth of the corporate startup, product, or service.

WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM 

Working within I&D as a design intern provides an unparalleled opportunity to work on big, impactful challenges for leading brands and businesses, and to experience and learn from multiple different types of projects across industries.

WHAT YOU’LL DO 

  1. Participate in the full strategic design process hands on to transform customer insights into impactful opportunities for growth
  • Conduct qualitative research and synthesize learnings into actionable insights and tangible artifacts (e.g. personas, customer journey maps, opportunity maps)
  • Support planning and execution of ideation workshops and creative sessions
  • Envision and conceptualize new business ideas and services with game changing potential and bring them to life through creative storytelling
  • Iteratively design and refine solutions through low to high-fidelity prototyping
  1. Team with and learn from a diverse group of designers and innovation specialists with deep expertise in human-centered design and product development
  • Contribute to the collective growth and experience of the I&D team by sharing your experiences and unique perspective
  • Gain experience working in a client services environment
  • Benefit from 1:1 mentorship from I&D team members with a broad range of experiences and backgrounds
  1. Support case team on cross-functional process management and project delivery and ensure that I&D delivers successfully
  • Help ensure that I&D is successful at delivering high impact results
  • Independently own pieces of design work, take direction and feedback to evolve the work, and manage time effectively
  • Effectively collaborate, co-create, and build relationships with multiple stakeholders (case team, client team, experts, outside partners)
  1. Help to bring Bain to the next level as a business
  • Build the I&D knowledge base by capturing learnings from client engagements
  • Teach and transfer knowledge, expertise, and capabilities to Bain teams and client teams
  • Contribute to I&D culture creation and take on team, office, or firm initiatives

ABOUT YOU

  • 0-1 years of hands-on experience shaping digital products, services, and/or new ventures (whether in an academic, professional, or extracurricular setting)
  • A thorough understanding of Design Thinking
  • Skillset and interests focused on areas within strategic design, research, UX/UI, service design, omnichannel experience design, and/or digital product design
  • Comfort with and passion for the end-to-end design process, from early-stage insights gathering, to strategy definition, concepting, and prototyping
  • Familiarity with planning and conducting qualitative research methodologies such as interviews, shadowing and usability testing
  • Ability to translate high-level design concepts into detailed designs, ranging from user flows and low-fidelity wireframes to pixel-perfect UI designs, often shared as interactive prototypes
  • Fluency in working with state-of-the-art collaboration and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Miro, Webflow, Adobe CS)
  • Excellent communication, presentation and collaboration skills, with a knack for visual storytelling
  • A highly ambitious and entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Self-starter with a proactive and creative mindset
  • Professional-level fluency (comfort in presenting your work and collaborating) in both Italian and English is a mandatory requirement
  • This role requires approximately 30% travel to clients across Italy 

An ideal candidate will also have:

  • A basic understanding of product and business strategy
  • Understanding of and/or experience using Agile work methods
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, especially Powerpoint
  • Familiarity with crafting and adopting design systems for digital products, including typography, iconography, layout, interface elements, grid, and color palette
  • Basic understanding of technical constraints and feasibility for front-end development (you don’t need to know how to write code, but we expect designers to be aware of the effort required to implement the solutions they design)
  • Basic knowledge of Service Design tools (e.g., Customer Journeys, Service Blueprints, etc.)
