The Department of Visual and Media Arts at Emerson College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor or Artist-in-Residence position in Virtual Production. The Department seeks an innovative and dedicated educator and artist whose skill sets include: virtual production workflow management, Unreal Engine and other emerging software, LED technology, and/or cinematography for virtual production. Successful candidates will demonstrate a capacity for growth in this emerging field. The appointment begins August 22, 2024 with a mandatory 2-day orientation August 22 & 23, 2024.

The Department of Visual and Media Arts (VMA) is a vibrant and engaged community of artists, scholars, and professionals, with over 100 full- and part-time faculty members, 1700 undergraduate students, and more than 100 MFA graduate students. The department offers general education courses in art history, a BA degree that includes tracks in either media studies or media production, a BFA in media production, an international BFA in Film Art with the Paris College of Art, a low-residency MFA in writing for film and television, and an MFA in film and media art. VMA also contributes to several interdepartmental programs. 

Emerson College enrolls over 5,800 graduate and undergraduate students from 49 states and more than 70 countries. Its main campus is located in the dynamic, multicultural city of Boston. The college also has campuses in Los Angeles and the Netherlands. Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate will be a dedicated educator and active practitioner with a master’s or terminal degree in art/media or a related field, or significant professional experience comparable to a terminal degree. They will also have college-level teaching experience or comparable professional teaching experience. For consideration for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, the candidate must also have a record of innovative creative and/or professional work.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include: (1) teaching undergraduate and graduate classes in virtual production and other emerging media technology in Visual and Media Arts department on our Boston campus; (2) teaching in the department’s Foundations (First Year) curriculum, (3) developing VMA curriculum for virtual production; (4) academic advising and student mentorship; (5) service to the department, college, and profession.
