Join our Color and Material Designer team to set the vision for the development and direction of interior, exterior, color and material designs for Ford and Lincoln Programs. We are seeking designers that thrive in a fast-paced environments to deliver impactful designs, designers that create innovative designs that impact human centric thinking, have a strong design leadership, and positive critical thinking skills. 

This position is located hybrid in Dearborn, MI.

What you'll do...

  • Develop and guide color and material designs through digital presentations and renderings for concept and production vehicles.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to drive successful global relationships with both internal, external partners, and suppliers.
  • Work with other Color & Material Designers to strategize in the development of textiles, forecast trends, and research. 
  • Create and validate color, texture, gloss, and finish, as necessary. 
  • Supports all program timing, ensuring program and project deliverables are met within the program targets.
  • Create color palettes that align the Ford and Lincoln brands and target market audiences.
  • Participate in design reviews, meetings, and effectively present color and material designs to key stakeholders.
  • Conduct research on current trends, sustainable materials, colors and finishes and present findings to internal and cross functional teams.
  • Work with mastering and engineering functional teams to assess materials and ensure colors and materials meet performance expectations.

You'll have... 

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial design, fine arts, fashion, textiles, or related field.
  • 2+ year of experience in automotive/industrial/mobility color and material design or development including work in product design or textile design (internship and/or co-op experience allowed) 
  • A portfolio submission in addition to a resume is required. Portfolio needs to exhibiting color and material designs to be considered.

Even better, you may have...

  • Expertise and knowledge of 3D prototyping, property builds, etc.
  • Working level knowledge of fabrics and trims associated with the development process.
  • Ability to effectively communicate designs and strategy direction with cross functional teams.
  • Must be self-motivated, adaptable, flexible, and able to multi-task.
  • Strong, demonstrated understanding of color theory (hue, value, chroma, etc.).
  • Proficient in Adobe Suit tools (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator, VRED) and Microsoft Suit tools (i.e., PowerPoint, Excel).
