The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are adding a Lighting Design and Development Specialist to our growing our Energy and Technical Services business at McKinstry. Due to our growth in our lighting business, we are adding this position to our Rocky Mountain regional team. This individual will be responsible for designing lighting project plans and proposals for our energy solutions project for our customers mostly in the Western US. We are searching for a seasoned lighting project development professional who can partner with our E&TS solutions team to create project plans. This position is responsible for the assessment, design and pricing of new, remodel and retrofit projects for lighting. The role interacts with the sales force during the discovery stage as well as the formal proposal stage. Understands and implements the customers’ requirements as well as communicates with all involved parties to produce accurate pricing and reliable proposals. Additionally, some responsibilities you will have include:

  • Under general direction as an individual or part of a team, leads and performs time critical Order of Magnitude surveys, investment grade audits, and measurement and verification functions for performance contract lighting Facility Improvement Measures. Evaluates and makes recommendations from gathered field data to assist in lighting project development. Conducts site and end-user interviews and provides documentation and other required deliverables as instructed. Works with design managers and proposal engineers to determine feasibility of technology and strategy implementation while still meeting customer financial goals and schedule.
  • Deploys, provides documentation, and retrieves lighting and occupancy monitoring equipment in accordance with directed FEMP or IPMVP sampling guidelines. Generates field reading reports of kW power quality measurements using certified metering equipment in accordance with directed FEMP or IPMVP sampling guidelines. Performs and documents lighting levels performed with certified and calibrated light meters according to major task categories for pre and post retrofit conditions, in accordance with company directed guidelines.
  • Follows project specific communication protocols, contacts and meets with on-site facility personnel to initiate the lighting audit and Measurement & Verification (M&V) processes and communicates progress until completion.
  • Uses specialized tools, inspection equipment, and data collection media, performs a comprehensive lighting inventory and prepares detailed reports of the customer’s existing lighting system as scoped by regional lighting design managers and proposal development engineers.
  • Works with the customer’s facility managers or designated representatives to communicate expected schedules and critical timelines for completion of audits and M&V evolutions. Coordinates key custody and/or escorts to access customer spaces for all team members. Factors in accessibility restrictions and proper safety measures and communicates schedule impact to all parties.
  • Collects, prepares, and audits project deliverable documents to include: location reference maps, fixture descriptions, site interview forms, exterior pole and fixture information forms, common room drawings, high and low bay layout drawings, as well as any other deliverables that may be deemed necessary to provide best-in-class lighting proposals.
  • Deploys and retrieves runtime lighting and occupancy data logging devices used to record baseline operating hours of lighting equipment and occupancy behaviors for identified space usage groups.
  • Based upon proposed lighting, design, customer requirements and products selected, prices anticipated labor and material costs. Provides rebate analysis to determine available utility or state energy program sponsored rebates. Incorporates those rebates into cost payback analysis for the customer. Reviews proposal to ensure that calculated payback falls within customer’s parameters. Assimilates M&V Data into the design, pricing and energy savings analysis.
  • Upon project completion, incorporates as-built information into the design for the Performance Contract.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Four (4) year college level training in architecture, architectural engineering, engineering, mechanical/electrical engineering or related field, or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Five (5) years of related experience in designing lighting projects.
  • General knowledge of lighting and electrical installations including circuitry, load, and voltage.
  • Should be familiar with the National Electrical Code, IESNA recommended lighting levels, FEMP & IPMVP guidelines, and ASHRAE standards.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required; working knowledge of SharePoint preferred.

The pay range for this position is $102,780 - $162,830 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
