The Opportunity

The Credit Risk Review (CRR) group is responsible for independently evaluating the bank’s credit risk exposures from both lending and non-lending activities to opine upon the effectiveness of credit risk management practices and credit quality in fulfillment of regulatory expectations for safety and soundness.

  • CRR reports administratively through Audit Services, functionally to the Board of Directors, and is governed by the CRR Policy and the Interagency Guidance for CRR Systems.
  • The group conducts its work through the execution of its programs in adherence with the CRR business plan. The CRR Programs include Continuous Monitoring, Periodic Reviews, and Portfolio Assessments.
  • Results are reported to executive and senior management, bank credit risk management committee, and the Boards of Directors.

The CRR Practices Team establishes a core program to ensure effectiveness, consistency, and adherence to regulatory expectations and USAA’s governance protocols. The team instills and executes CRR administrative practices. Key responsibilities of the team include:

  • Prepare and deliver reporting
  • Issues management routines
  • Own process framework, risk and control oversight, policies, procedures, guidelines, and change management activities
  • Quality assurance inspection of execution adherence by the Retail CRR, Wholesale CRR, and CRR Data Analytics teams
  • Innovate for the future, drive and support strategic initiatives and improvements
  • Own the future system of record
  • Audit and exam management

The Senior Risk Analyst for CRR Practices is critical to our success. This role will be responsible for contributing to the enhancement and execution of the quality assurance program, delivering Board reporting, and participating in the progressive buildout of our system of record. Along with other Practices colleagues, this role will help to ensure the key responsibilities of the team are fulfilled and delivered effectively.

This position reports directly to the Team Lead, Wholesale CRR & Practices Teams. We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX or Plano, TX.

What you'll do:

  • Partners with key stakeholders in the bank to identify, assess, aggregate and document risks and controls, including risks associated with new or modified products, services, distribution channels, regulations and third-party operations using advanced knowledge.
  • Communicates results of risk assessments to, business process owners and various levels of leadership in the bank.
  • Implements new bank risk policies, practices, appetites, and solutions to ensure holistic understanding and management of bank risks according to industry best practice.
  • Enhances and contributes to bank tools, and methodologies to measure, monitor, and report risks based on established strategy.
  • Applies advanced knowledge to utilize or produce analytical material for discussions with cross functional teams to understand bank business objectives and influence solution strategies.
  • Serves as a key contributor in cross-functional teams in the bank to identify, assess, aggregate, and mitigate current and emerging bank risk events.
  • Formulates stress test plans for bank including the evaluation of results and framing of contingency plans in partnership with key bank stakeholders.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or a related field. 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • 6 years of risk management, regulatory or operations experience in a relevant functional area to include banking, insurance, financial services, audit, project management, public accounting, or other related operational area. Or advanced degree/designation in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or other discipline relevant to risk management and 4 years of work experience in a discipline relevant to risk management.
  • Risk management experience in a complex institution and/or highly matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution management and ability to effectively challenge at all levels of management and influence business outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively work with both internal and external partners in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools and techniques and decision-making abilities, to include demonstrated ability to effectively make data-driven decisions.
  • Proactively identifies potential concerns and follows-up to resolve issues.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of federal regulation 12 CFR Part 30, including Appendices A and D and with federal supervisory guidance, to include:
  • OCC Documents: Large Bank Supervision Handbook; OCC Safety and Soundness Handbooks - Internal Controls, Corporate & Risk Governance, Retail Lending; and key OCC bulletins - Model Risk Governance, Model Risk Management, New Products and Services Risk Management, Third Party Risk Management, Technology Risk Management, Stress Testing, and Operational Risk
  • Federal Reserve Documents: Consolidated Supervision Framework for Large Financial Institutions; Federal Reserve Board Bank Holding Company Supervision Manual
  • FFIEC Manuals and Handbooks to include: Banking, General understanding of federal laws, rules, and regulations, to include: CRA; ECOA; FCRA; MLA; SCRA; Regulation DD; Regulation E; Regulation Z; BSA/AML; and UDAP/UDAAP
  • Laws and Regulations for illustrative purposes. Roles would need an understanding of all federal and state laws and regulatory guidance applicable to the organization and responsibilities of the role.

What sets you apart:

  • Retail and/or Wholesale credit analysis and risk management experience
  • CRR, Credit Review, or Audit experience is preferred
  • Experience designing and preparing detailed presentations for an executive management audience with a high degree of accuracy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and social skills required with ability to present complex and sensitive topics to management
  • Using data analytics and visualization to analyze credit risk, formulate opinions based on facts, and draw conclusions
  • Understanding of systems implementation processes, including User Acceptance Testing
  • Willingness to expand knowledge skillset to contribute across CRR

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $99,160 – $189,530. Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
