Job Description

Walden’s Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS) provides instruction to help students develop academic and professional skills for success. We align our support with university-wide, degree-level learning outcomes. Everyone in OASIS collaborates with teams across Walden to ensure we connect students with flexible, seamless instructional support where and when they need it. 

This position plays a pivotal role leading the overall design and user experience for a suite of academic instructional websites, the student catalog, and student handbook. This position will work with a wide variety of stakeholders and partners across the university to design engaging, accessible, and responsive websites and digital assets. This position will have the opportunity to demonstrate their expertise in web design tools, programming languages, and design principles to deliver website and other digital assets to drive a best-in-class user experience that also meets both aesthetic and functional standards.

All candidates will be required to submit a portfolio of work samples and/or links to their work.

Responsibilities;

  • Develop visually appealing and intuitive websites and digital assets that provide a seamless user experience and align to defined brand guidelines.
  • Collaborate with key organizational stakeholders and OASIS leadership to understand and meet website requirements and objectives. Work with front-end web developers to deploy designs. 
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and user flows to visualize and iterate on design solutions. Design UI elements and tools such as navigation menus, search boxes, tabs, and widgets.
  • Design page layouts and templates; develop and maintain a design library and style guide. Enforce design standards.
  • Ensure websites and designs meet current Section 508 compliance and WCAG guidelines and are compatible with various devices and browsers.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in UX/UI design.
  • Plan and conduct usability testing sessions to gather feedback and insights for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in the OASIS Extended Leadership group.
  • Contribute to building a positive team culture and a healthy workplace in OASIS and beyond. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA or BFA in Web Design, Graphic Design, Visual Arts or a related field). Required.
  • Master's Degree - Preferred. 
  • 5 plus years of experience in designing and developing websites, preferably in higher education and/or online adult learning supervisory experience.
  • Solid understanding of user-centered design principles, usability testing, and SEO principles and best practices. Understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Demonstrated experience in graphic design, vector art, information design, and interaction design.
  • Proficiency in design technologies and tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD. Familiar with HTML, and CSS.
  • Experience leading, managing, and implementing projects with an academic focus.
  • Strong problem-solving, collaboration, organizational, and communication (visual, verbal, and written) skills.
  • Ability to adapt well to change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management skills.
  • Value working with individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $59923.09 and $108334.92. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
