Teach North Texas (TNT) is an undergraduate secondary science, mathematics and computer science teacher education program housed within the College of Science at UNT and is one of 50+ national UTeach replication sites. Experienced secondary teachers collaborate with UNT faculty to train pre-service secondary teachers in the implementation of innovative best practices in secondary mathematics and science.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Summary 

The Teach North Texas Program at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a full time, 9-month lecturer position to serve as a Master Teacher. The position begins in Fall 2024. Annual reappointment is possible based on satisfactory performance. Teach North Texas is an undergraduate secondary science, mathematics and computer science teacher education program housed within the College of Science at UNT and is one of 50+ national UTeach replication sites. Experienced secondary teachers collaborate with UNT faculty to train pre-service secondary teachers in the implementation of innovative best practices in secondary mathematics and science. Duties of the Master Teacher include: teaching courses in the professional development sequence for pre-service teachers in science, mathematics or computer science; supervision, coordination, and observations of early and clinical field experiences; orientation and collaboration activities with district partners; and other duties as required. This will be an initial appointment of 3-years that may be nonrenewed at the end of each year for no cause at the sole discretion of the university.

Minimum Qualifications 

Applicants must have a valid Texas Secondary (or all level) Teacher Certification, a minimum of a master’s degree at the time of appointment and at least three years of secondary public school teaching experience in the field(s) of mathematics, or the sciences . Required qualifications include an undergraduate science, mathematics or computer science degree or a minimum of 18 graduate content hours in a science, mathematics or computer science discipline. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and experience working with pre-service and/or in-service teachers.

Required License/Registration/Certification: Valid Secondary, or all level, Texas Teacher Certification.

Preferred Qualifications 

Desired qualifications include supervision of student teaching, experience as an instructional coach, and/or college teaching experience. Candidates with mathematics and/or computer science backgrounds are preferred, however candidates with a science background will be considered. Candidates with experience in Project Based Learning and with imbedded science and mathematics programs such as UTeach/TNT are also preferred. However, all mathematics and science candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered.
