School of Social Work

The Saint Louis University School of Social Work in St. Louis, Missouri invites applications for one non-tenure-track position at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, with a focus on teaching in the Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work programs. This is a permanent full-time, 9-month appointment beginning August 2024.

Saint Louis University is a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service. The School of Social Work is noted for its commitment to students, strong practice orientation, exemplary teaching and scholarship, and vision of social justice. The School of Social Work offers a PhD in Social Work with approximately 20-24 doctoral students, Master of Social Work with approximately 150 students, a Baccalaureate of Social Work with over 100 students, as well as a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Arts degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, and a graduate program in Applied Behavior Analysis.

We are seeking a highly qualified social work practitioner who can teach across the BSSW and MSW programs in the School of Social Work. The ideal candidate will have substantial practice experience, demonstrated commitment to educating future social work professionals, continuous engagement in professional development, and the ability to positively contribute to a collaborative and collegial environment.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • MSW from a CSWE-accredited program
  • Five years of post-MSW practice experience
  • Post-secondary teaching experience
  • Demonstrated capacity to teach across the BSSW and MSW curriculum
  • Ability to teach in-person and on-line courses

Preferred Qualifications and experience

  • Clinical Social Work License (LCSW or equivalent from another state)
  • PhD in social work or DSW
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness in online and face-to-face formats at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly or professional development activities.
  • Experience working with community members, organizations, or agencies in practice, research, or technical activities that aim to advance social work practice or social justice efforts.

Responsibilities Include

  • Teach seven courses during the fall and spring semesters across the BSSW and MSW programs, with additional opportunities available to teach in the summer. The position requires a flexible teaching schedule to include day and evening classes as well as the ability to teach face-to-face and online.
  • Develop and revise courses, contribute to curriculum development, and participate in the re-accreditation process.
  • Provide academic advising and mentoring to students enrolled in the MSW & BSSW program.
  • Support strategic initiatives across the School and campus and provide leadership and service to the school and University and at the local, state, and national levels.

Salary: Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
