MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

・Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree with an expected graduation till March 2026

  • Must be in School until the end of internship program

・Must be available for a 3-month on-site internship in 2024

・Have no more than 24 months of professional full-time work experience in the technology field (excluding internships, research and/or teaching assistant roles, and military experience).

・International students who require visa support must meet one of the following requirements:

・The internship program is part of your education and essential for your graduation

・This internship allows you to receive some credit(s) for your education program

・Have Bachelor degree at the time of application

WORKING CONDITIONS

・Start Date: June 1, 2024, August 1, 2024

・Internship Duration: 3 months

・Expected work hours: 3-5 days on weekdays (24-40 hours/week)

Arene's mission is to empower Toyota and its partners to deliver next-generation vehicles with hardware-agnostic software that can be updated to support new features at any time.

The Arene Efficiency Tools team provides a unified set of tools for creating, managing, and coordinating software projects specialized in-vehicle software. As part of an effort to speed up development cycles and reduce the time application developers spend setting up and maintaining their development environments and CI runners, our team aims to provide tooling and support to reduce the time required for these maintenance-level tasks. We also aim to homogenize project setup across all members of a development team.

Our team spans across a variety of disciplines, backgrounds, and knowledge. We focus on providing tools to internal and external developers that allow them to set up their workstations quickly and efficiently, where tools and their configuration are controlled, in order to ensure a common development environment among all developers of a project.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for software engineers who are passionate about delivering high-quality, maintainable software directly to users to enable the next generation of automotive software development. The right candidate will have a strong foundation in software engineering coupled with a desire to learn new technologies and meet new people.

You will report to the Team Lead within the Efficiency Tooling team, and this role's workplace type is onsite - you will work in the office 5 days per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development and maintenance of modern tools that provision development environments and machine configurations
  • Ensure developers can create and deploy software with confidence, avoiding breaking changes and unforeseen regressions
  • Work closely with our automotive and cloud software teams to optimize the development experience and software quality across a large, safety-critical codebase by building and integrating different tools and best practices

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Experience with modern development tools, especially package management systems (ex. homebrew, Nix, apt, etc.)
  • Experience building / developing command line tools in Rust (preferred), or Go
  • Knowledge of software development best practices (ex. code review, coding standards, etc.)
  • Business-level proficiency in English

NICE TO HAVES

  • Knowledge of environment provisioning frameworks, esp. Nix
  • Interest in developer tools and languages (have used or have a working knowledge of a wide range of languages and tools)
  • Interest in automotive and safety-focused environments
  • Proficiency in Japanese
