Front Office Student Assistant, Creative Writing / SPE

The Schools of Public Engagement (SPE) is seeking a Front Office Student Assistant to work in the Creative Writing Program. The Creative Writing Program supports New School students, faculty, administration, and the New York City community. We are a busy office composed of staff members, faculty, graduate and undergraduate students. SPE comprises the School of Media Studies; the School of Undergraduate Studies; the Milano School of Policy, Management, and Environment; the Creative Writing Program; and the Julien J. Studley Graduate Programs in International Affairs, as well as several programs, research centers and institutes.

The ideal candidate should be reliable and motivated to help with day-to-day operations in a busy, fast-paced office. Selected candidates will be familiarized with Creative Writing’s academic programs, course offerings, events, and curriculum. This position is expected to work on-site.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with in-person, telephone, and email inquiries
  • Direct calls/emails/requests for faculty, administrators, or other departments/programs
  • Assist with clerical support for Creative Writing staff and faculty as assigned, including data entry, filing, and other projects
  • Assist in converting analog materials to digital archives: primarily paper and audio to digital media.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Hourly Rate: $16/hr with 10 – 20hr weekly schedule (based on availability).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Professional with excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently and use good judgment
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Tech savvy with command of Google Drive, Microsoft Suite, and Zoom
  • Ability to proofread and a keen eye for details
  • Friendly demeanor and a positive attitude
  • Ability to work on-site
  • Ability to adhere to the university’s Covid-19 policy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Students whose concentration is writing and literature are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite a plus
  • Prior experience in an administrative support position
