Cox Strategy & Investments is responsible for leading Cox Enterprises’ corporate strategy, managing and diversifying our portfolio of companies and investments, supporting investments in the Atlanta Venture ecosystem (including Techstars, Endeavor, Engage Ventures, amongst others) and managing Socium, our venture capital fund. Our team is at the forefront of our efforts to build multi-billion dollar revenue platforms in new industries including Cleantech, Govtech, Edtech, Digital Media and Digital Health.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

As a Manager, you will play a critical and highly visible role in driving forward strategic initiatives for Cox. You will lead work to drive strategic decisions with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) in CEI corporate strategy meetings, develop and recommend investment themes, and identify individual investments, working alongside S&I Directors and VPs.

The role will be dynamic, intellectually challenging, and require strong problem-solving, quantitative, and communications skills to influence decisions with senior executives at Cox Enterprises. The successful candidate will be team-oriented, proactive, willing to take on new challenges, and have high integrity.

In this role, you will:

  • Perform primary and secondary market research (e.g., value chain, market sizing, competitive landscape).
  • Develop recommendations that will guide our overall corporate strategy.
  • Gather industry intelligence, including sector technical/market trends, financing rounds, and M&A.
  • Assist in the development of pipelines of investment targets.
  • Work alongside the Corporate Development team to manage and support investment processes, including diligence activities, management and customer meetings, and deal negotiations.
  • Lead financial modeling efforts to guide strategic discussions and evaluate potential investments.
  • Develop and present materials that translate detailed analysis into concise narratives.
  • Monitor portfolio companies; assist with strategic, operational, and financial initiatives; serve in a board observer capacity as needed.
  • Participate in our efforts to strengthen Atlanta’s venture ecosystem with local accelerators and startups.

Qualifications

Skills and Requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 6 years’ of professional work experience in strategic analysis and research at a top-tier strategy consulting firm, private equity/venture capital firm, investment bank or corporation. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master’s degree and 2 years’ experience; a Ph.D. and up to 1 year of experience; or In lieu of a degree, ten (10) years of experience in a related field will be considered.
  • Experience balancing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Experience conducting primary and secondary research.
  • Proven record of leadership in a work setting and/or through extracurricular activities.
  • Structured and logical thinking with the ability to evaluate, filter, organize, and summarize strategic information.
  • Experience building advanced financial models and investment valuations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for presentations to senior executives.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Track record of consistent high-level of achievement in a work setting and in extracurricular activities.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Accounting, or related fields.
  • Experience with investments or M&A transactions.
  • Experience in our sectors of interest.
