Buckeye Partners is currently seeking a Senior Engineer, Mechanical with a focus on mechanical and relief design engineering experience in the pipeline & terminals business!

Role Summary:

The Senior Engineer, Mechanical role is responsible for assisting in pipeline & terminal design projects, producing engineering standards, and continuously improving the technical content of our bidding, business case justification, estimating, and construction packages.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:

Daily Operations. Respond to requests for technical support including code interpretation, specification of materials and equipment, construction engineering responses, attendance at process hazard review sessions, and membership on company technical committees.

Project Support. Oversight for mechanical design of pipeline & terminal assets including but not limited to:

PFD and P&ID development and reconciliation

Specifications for engineering products and materials

Development of facility piping and interconnects to planned equipment

Collaboration with Rotating Equipment Engineers for planned improvements

Pressure relief and flare header design and analysis – design of new pressure relief systems and/or resolve existing pressure relief system inadequacies

Oversee process simulation efforts including pressure relief design and P&ID development performed by third party engineering partners

Read and interpret P&IDs, equipment datasheets, Cause and Effect charts, SAFE charts, Instrument diagrams, etc.

Assist in site Process Hazard Analysis (HAZOP, LOPA, What-if, FMEA, HAZID)

Design support of common terminal processes such as Truck Loading/Offloading Operations, Blending Operations (Butane, Ethanol, Biodiesel), Pipeline Delivery, Additive Injection, Rail Loading/Offloading; evaluating and resolving system inadequacies.

Conducting thorough and timely design review of engineering packages produced by third party engineering firms.

Facility Assessments. Perform site visits to assess current piping, equipment, and relief device install base, improve facility documentation, and help prepare scope of work information for maintenance capital improvement projects.

Process Improvements. Contributing significantly to the definition of design processes, procedures, and work instructions and the continuous improvement thereof.

Engineering Standards. Producing, monitoring, and improving engineering standards, recommended practices, standard designs, and specifications that form a part of the design library of the company. .

And other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

B.S. Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering required.

10-15 years’ progressive experience as an owner representative in the engineering design capacity related to pipeline and terminals business, chemicals industry or other process industry.

Experience must include field experience in execution of construction projects. Preference given to candidates with experience representing or being owner-operator.

Candidates with experience with an engineering firm must demonstrate working knowledge of regulatory and operational aspects of project design and execution.

Proficiency in relief valve and flare system design

Up to 25% travel across all Buckeye assets.

Certificates & Licenses:

Professional Engineer license preferred with the capability of expanding licensure to other states by reciprocity.

Other Skills, Attributes and Abilities:

Mastery of communication with other engineering professionals, suppliers, and contractors using the English language

Skillful in Microsoft Office suite of software, AutoCAD, engineering and design software packages

Essential Functions:

This position requires the ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and or/quantitative productivity standards.

This role requires the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

This position requires compliance with all personnel policies.

Physical & Safety Requirements:

The person in this position needs to occasionally move inside the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.

The employee is frequently required to effectively communicate with others.
